Will this server survive a front page Digg?

I plan on launching a new site in a few months, and am looking for a hosting package at the moment. I'm going to go with liquidweb since their servers are fully managed and fully scalable.

I'm only expecting around 30-50,000 unique visitors a month to start off. I'm not too worried about bandwidth. However, I am expecting to hit front page on social media sites at least a few times. So, I will need something that could survive 25,000 (or more) visitors in one day if it comes down to it.

From what I understand, ram should be my main concern with large bursts of traffic. Here's the VPS package that I was planning to start with:

https://www.liquidweb.com/cart/content/vps/VPS/Plan2 (with the upgraded 1024mb ram)

Would that survive front page on social media sites? The other option is just going straight to dedicated and purchasing this plan:

https://www.liquidweb.com/cart/content/dedicated/Webmaster/Plan1 (with 2gb of ram, which can easily be upgraded to 4gb of ram).

I'm trying to keep my server costs at a minimum until traffic begins to increase over the first few months. However, I don't want the server crashing and losing first time visitors.

    Suggestions?
