Will This Link Building Strategy Get Me Banned?

I'm planning to build 75 backlinks by commenting on dofollow blog in my niche.

I will leave non-spammy, on-topic comments that will contribute to the conversation fully. I was told that doing this will get my blog banned by wordpress.

Do I have to get a virtual hosting account and then use a proxy to avoid getting my wordpress blog banned by wordpress?

I dont think that link building strategy is a problem but wordpress hosted blogs are notorious for being deleted at any time if someone considers them commercial. Even if they don't delete it right away they might after a few months of your hard work promoting so I wouldnt bother. It's much better to host your own wordpress blog on your own domain name.

Here is some info on the differences between wordpress hosted vs self hosted blogs:

if you leave on topic comment on relavant blog, then i dont see how that could be a problem. all blog owners want comment on their blogs and welcome on-topic comments that add value to the blog

It's not the greatest link building strategy because it (by definition) is spam. You may get a few backlinks here and there, but hardly worth the risk. You could probably get more by spending your time submitting to social bookmarking sites or something different.

Does Wordpress blogs (hosted by Wordpress) get penalized for inbound links? Is Wordpress owned by Google though

Just build it gradually. 75 backlinks in a day willl sound like a spam. Spread it between weeks and that should be normal.

I find there is nothing wrong in commenting a blog in right way. Here you are also contributing your thoughts on the post, share your knowledge and there is no way to consider it a spam.

it's not a problem, providing that you don't spam with useless messages. Write a considered response and that way it's more likely that your comments will remain on the site
