Will this hurt my PR?

Hi. A friend told me that having a link directory will hurt my PR.

I think you should stop worrying about your PageRank. Nowadays it is just a number with no effect at all on your SERP. In my opinion having a link directory as the one above will not hurt your PR but nor will have a positive effect on your ranking position. You need external one-way links to your website from topic related websites to improve your ranking position in Google.

 

What is SERP exactly?
I know that I need backlinks, especially from high pr sites. But now the matter is concerning whether having links to other site hurts my pr or not.

As long as you get reciprocal links back from the sites in the directory and the directory itself is separate from the other pages on that site it has only positive effects.

 

SERP = Search Engine Result Page

Adwebio is saying you can receive much traffic from the search engines despite the site's page rank is low.

 

What if they don't link back? I just want an archive of sites related to my subject.

You mean monetizing the keywords very well?

 

If you have a good idea about integrating such directory within your site, then without worrying over such petty things, just go ahead and do it. I do not believe such action will anyway harm your PR as it is just another constructive way of trying to group links for your relevant niche....for good customer service!

I don't think creating a link page will hurt your ranking. It's just a matter of choosing the quality and number of links you put in that page. Don't stuff it with too many links. Make sure your directory isn't automated. It could be attacked by spammers.

You sure about that? I've heard so much about it, made me paranoid haha

 

Google likes to see a natural link flow of websites hence the term web. As long as your site isn't a link farm you don't have anything to worry about. It would be counterproductive for google to penalize sites with outbound links.

I dont think it hurts anyone. Its really great for a website to build as many links as they can. Which helps them to get high PR.

 

It may hurt you if you link to the bad neighborhood - sites that are not relevant to yours...

I have never heard that this kind of linking harms in any manner. Gave me a scare when I read your thread...lol!
