Hmmm. Not sure I sent one of those crazy emails yesterday, but have sent them in the past to people that spam my directories with their crap viagra or ringtone sites and then don't pay. Why they waste their time and mine is beyond me!

Just a couple days ago (hope this wasnt you Pipes) a guy submitted 57 (yes, 57!) sites without paying the 4.99 fee even once. The guy must have been drunk or stoned to sit at his computer that long and submit 57 sites knowing I'm not going to approve any of them. That guy did recieve some very nasty emails. I will never understand crackheads.

Well i have 2 websites and 2 blogs and while their submitted to thousands of directories by hand their done in an order that spaces out the submissions so the maximum anyone could receive from me would be 4, not counting resubmissions, which i make a point of not doing as i check my list before i use a directory.

I can understand a directory owner being annoyed with spam, and non payment for obvious pay submissions.

At most, im guilty of misreading this persons submission form and not submitted the homepage.

Only recently i submitted to a different directory and received a rejection telling me to check their guidelines first, so i went back to the directory to check the guidelines, and guess what, there were no submission guidelines anywhere on the site, yet the owner seemed to think so, i tried emailing them about it but the email bounced.

why not just script it so that deep links are refused if no payment is made?

I am getting to this thread kindda late, but I want to add my one and a half cents.

Too bad you didn't make only one or two submissions around that time so you would determine which directory it was. I know the feeling, though. Given that I usually submit to more than one directory every day, I would never know either if it did not have a return name, email, or something I could use to track it.

I also wanted to add that I wish all directories had an option like that --- if you're not going to accept subpages/domains with free submissions, have a reasonably priced paid option for it. As long as the subpage/domain is submitted to an appropriate category and multiple pages from the same site are not submitted to the same category, I don't see anything wrong with it. They can then be approved or rejected on the same basis as any other submission.

The 57 listings submitted mentioned in a previous post was ironic. It wasn't me, of course, but 57 is how many that I have setup to submit (if the site has categories to support them all).

Y'know... sometimes people are simply unaware, busy or otherwise unable to find the rules on the crappily designed directories out there.

It's not always the fault of the user for not reading the mind of the idiot webmaster and making a mistake. That makes someone unaware or unobservant at worst... not an idiot.

So, unless the site you are submitting is total tripe, to the wrong location, with the wrong information in the fields, and ignoring all the rules, there doesn't seem to be any reason to throw insults around.

However, yeah, I have to agree, we aren't often dealing with professional businesses when dealing with these online "enterprises". I shudder to think where I'd fall on this issue if I actually had to send an email out to police entries...

What's the point in bouncing a two year old thread?

    Anyway, it's against the rules...

Wow I didn't realize it was that old  maybe I should make it a habit of checking the date :D it was one of the bottom links when viewing another current thread. If they don't want us to respond to the old threads maybe they shouldn't be displaying them, am I right?

Interesting point. I checked what suggestions were there after reading your post and saw a new directory announcement from 2005.

Just checked one of the threads started today and it has a link to a thread from 2005, in the General Conversation area asking about people's New Year's Eve plans. lol

Will be a little more forgiving of old thread resurrections now as this seems like something that would be so very easy to do without realizing it.
