Yes it's a link farm if you have a lot of crappy directories. Better to submit your site to a high PR directories that is relevant to your content.
It would be very painful to us if that happens. Just think of it, we are just submitting to them for the improvement of the site then if the directory where we send the site get penalized, we also suffer.
but if we get penalized for submitting to a cheap directory, then what about our competitors submitting our sites on purpose ???
As mentioned, dont worry about directory submissions. This is a common concern so Im glad you brought it up!!
links that can hurt your site doesnt exist!u have all to understand this!the deal is very simple.if a competitor want to hurt your site it will be probably submit to this directories your link and get you hurt and you have no power to stop it.So the worst that can happen is the link dont count at all.So if you submit to quality directories revelant to your sites category with little outgoing links and good pr you will sure benefit from that.period.
Generally, what Google has stated is that properly reviewed and edited directory listings are acceptable , I imagine that most actively promoted websites on the web today are listed in several directories Joining a directory or directories, has always been a simple obvious step for any business, still is Simply bear in mind that if an SE doesn't rate that directory highly, they would usually just ignore your listing
i agree with this, one of my sites was on page 2 for a keyword, i back linked to a couple directories my site rank dropped considerably
It depends on the directories. If it's quality directories I think it still helps and if it's only a directories that is full of unrelated links then this could hurt your site.
Google themselves say submit to Dmoz and Yahoo, and what are they?? yes directories!! There is not a problem submitting to quality directories. joeant.com bestoftheweb etc etc. Avoid really cheap and free directories. Avoid directories that blatently say they sell page rank, and buy of ones that you buy "advertising" from. Use hand edited directories that have quality sites listed in their index.
may not help your site with google but i am sure it will not be harmed, if that tactic is working for you then stick with it but add some more
Clarification Time! Ok... If you have a link pointing to your site from a link farm, you will not be penalized. Why? Simply, anyone and their mother can submit a site to a link farm and get it listed. That link just simply will not hold any value to your site, as if it didnt exist. If they did penalize then I'd be submitting my competitors to every link farm I know of.
I don't understand why it should hurt ... I have started a brand new site in September and have submitted manually to a large number of directories (all with PR >3) and within 8 weeks my page shows a PR 3 ...I think it still works pretty well ... ? I am now being on the first page for our search term (it's a local business, so it not highly competitive) but we were quite pleased with the results... Thomas
Google didn't penalize ALL directories. They penalized directories blatantly selling links for the PageRank (PR) value and the penalized directories who were engaged in heavy interlinking to boost their own PR. There are plenty of decent free directories, especially niche directories, out there that weren't guilty of the practices that Google punished and weren't affected by the recent penalties. Evaluate the quality control practices of the directory before submitting. Stay away from the majority of paid directories because they're not worth the entry fee. Especially stay away from the so-called bidding directories, the #1 money grab of 2007.
You should use SITE:www.*** at G to find out the directories weather indexed well in G.If no results, you'd better dont to submit to it.it maybe had been banned by Google.
if You have strong site then directories will not hurt Your site... if You have new site then better option is when You use better/strong directories first to build trust rank for Your site.
