I saw a lot of free directories all around. A lot of them are available from dp. So if i submit my blog to these web directories, will it improve my blog's pagerank or increase traffic? I don't know anything about web directories. And most of the directories had 3 options. 1) featured link 2) regular links 3) regular link with reciprocal what all these means?
submitting to directories will give you backlinks that does give you some help in the search engines as for options 1 and 2 above, they are paid links...you pay for your placement on the directory site option 3, which is free, means you put the directories banner on your site I've done the 3rd option many times and put the banners at the bottom of my sites....you can check out my travel blog http://www.travelsnippetsandmore.com/ and scroll all the way to the bottom to see how it can looks...all that 'stuff' above the privacy policy are reciprocal links I also have used the free service offered by resellergo.com for directory submission...it's a bit cumbersome and I use it while doing something else...but it is free and does get me more backlinks
so i should add my blog to as much as directories as possible. Thanks for the detailed reply dfourss.
1) featured link - appears above all listings on each page of a category. 2) regular links - appears as standard, beneath featured, on one page. 3) regular link with reciprocal - best not bothering with if you dont have to.
Directories do very little to get you traffic. However, it builds back links. Back links are great for SERPs and also for PR. I submit to as many as I can because a back link is a back link and will never hurt.
Regular links aren't always paid ones. I've seen many that regular is a free link w/out reciprocal required. However, they'll usually mention that featured or reciprocal guarantees your submission or makes your submission approval process go faster.
As well as submitting your main Blog url always submit your Blog RSS url as well. Great for getting good do-follow links.
