Will submitting in directories that allow adult/casino hurt me?

Most directories do not allow adult or casino related sites but I see some do. Should I avoid submitting to those that do have these sort of links?

I'm submitting to directories for back links, of course. Could they possibly be construed as bad neighborhoods, and not the sort of backlinks i really want?

I don't think they should be considered as bad neighbors since the category that your site will be on won't have adult links on it.

you wouldn't place a site about cars the same category page as a site about hardcore orgasms

    I may be wrong too

I realize they won't be in same category.

But if the directory asks for recip links then those bad neighborhood sites are possibly linking to the directory.

No, I wouldn't worry about this either. DMOZ don't seem to get peoples sites penalised.

Try to go for free directories if you can, so that you won't have to give a link back.

Just make sure you don't exchange links with link farms that have all sorts of links on a page.

My company doesn't allow us to submit to directories that allow adult or casino links. That being said, I don't know if that policy is simply being overcautious or a concern that doing so will actually hurt us.

This is one of the tools we use to check out a site that we are considering for a media buy or link exchange: http://www.siteadvisor.com/ I prefer to use the Firefox plugin.

I hope this tool is useful to you :)

The tool is interesting but a little too extreme a way to filiter for link exchanges. For me at least.

    Hi axemedia,

    It wouldn't hurt you :)
Why? For simple reason: Prevent Sabotage.

Your competitors will be able to sabotage you if they submit your site to tons of 'bad directories'. Therefore, Search Engine knows that it is beyond the respective WebMasters' control to have their links appearing on other webpages. This issue has been discussed in the books from SEO experts like Dave Taylor and Peter Kent.

it's okey as long as you site are adults/casino related too, or you don't linkback to them. but if not consider them as bad neighborhood..
