So, I get Godaddy hosting cuz it looks like a decent deal. WRONG. htaccess is screwed up, php includes only work in the same folder, etc... The good news is I only got it for 3 months, so I'll do what I can and then switch then. The question is who do I switch to? That's where you fine people come in, since I'm a complete n00b and it's become apparaant to me that I can't be trusted to make even the simplest decision on which freakin host to get I'd appreciate any reccomendations anyone would offer. I don't need anything too insanely fancy, I'd just like to be able to parse php in html files, deny access to certain folders, password protect other folders and files, run php includes to files in different directories, have php access, etc. Thanks for your time. Edit:They need to take paypal too.
I recommend Bluehost, Its quite expensive but worth paying the price for quality, you can host upto 6 domains
Checkout budgethost.ca, if you have multiple domain and you need reseller account go for budgetreseller.com My 2C
I've been with my host since August 1997, http://www.serverconnectix.com/ (formerly BestHost1 - same owner) and have got to give credit where credit is due. Their support is second to none and each time I've ever asked for a module to be placed on the server, my request has been honored. Anyway, feel free to take a look at what their server offers.....from the inside....... http://www.knightymeproductions.com/assistant.cgi Hope this helps in your decision making.
You can't beat NearlyFreeSpeech's service, but they are quite pricey if you use a lot of bandwidth. (They have a pay-as-you-go pricing structure.)
I have been with Jodohost.com for more than a year now and those guys are amazing. Great support. I have never had a down time. Not trying to promote their business or anything, just stating the facts.
For super high powered web hosting, try FastNext.com If you want a user-friendly, all-in-one e-commerce solution, I recommend ThirdSphereHosting.com (quite costly though but well worth the investment)
Whatever you do, do not use Yahoo hosting. Never. .htaccess is only a small part of what's screwed up there.
Just go with HostGator.com, great servers, uptime and unlimited domains on all but 1 plan. I've been with them for years.
