Will search engines penalize me?

Hey all, I have decided that I want to go back and completely rework my first website as it somehow has made the first page for some keywords that typically cost about $1.5 per click in adwords but it really doesn't have good content or a good design.

If I go back and rewrite it and change the template, will it drop back off in the search engine results? It will still be on the same server with the same domain name.

Web design changes can trigger temporary drops in search results, this is because you change the actual internal linking structure and content placement of the web page(s). Also, if your referring to adwords quality score that will change as well.

Yes, it will experience some drop offs. But I don't think SEs will penalize you for that.
