Will registering your domain overseas mean less SERPS on Google.com?

I happened to register my domain while I have been in Australia and its registered here on whois, "melbourne.IT" or something... I also noticed that one of my key phrases has a Third place position on Aussie Google (.com.au) but on Google.com it's about 7th..... Are my results going to be better for .com.au just because I registed there?

However this could have been becuase most of my traffic so far has been from Australia (its basiclly been me on there editing things)

Seems how I want my results to be best on .COM seems how it's the biggest Google, has what i've done made it more unlikely now?

    Thanks for any input

google.com.au is less competitive than google.com check if you have set a location in webmaster tools if you have set it to australia then you will rank better for australia, i have never heard about domains being registered elsewhere being impacted in the serps
