For example: yourname.bz .bz is for the country of Belize, but it is also a cool and short domain name... if i'm going for european & american traffic, will having a regional name like .bz affect the quality of google and other search traffic? Appreciate your opinions >>
I think it related with site's content but I think google likes .com/.net domains. For example if you targetted US visitors you should grab a .us domain. Of course it's my opinion.
Thanks man. I agree I'd rather get my choice in .com .net etc, but all close variations are already snapped up,
it does affect traffic - if you register it with your Google Webmaster account and go to "location preferences", it will lock that domain preference with the country, and it can't be reset.
Right I've never noticed that feature before.. would the result of changing your location preference mostly be seen in SERPS? Thanks for the help mate,
check the variations at our website Just type a name to search the domain and you will get few suggestions on next page. You may like few Good luck, Toniya
yes it does affect traffic..despite search engines, coming up with branding of your site will be difficult and secondly visitors especially USA and Europe are used to .com or .net. You tell people the name of your site of product brand and they automatically assume its a .com. Unless of course you really a unique site that will stand out.
I don't know. Some sites, like del.icio.us, use country-specific domains with good success. I wonder how much traffic del.icio.us gets from countries other than the us? However, if you use a non-us version of Google (like google.ca), then del.icio.us doesn't appear when you search for "social bookmarking." Obviously, Google de-emphasizes sites with country-level domains when you visit a country-specific version of Google (which you do automatically if you visit Google.com outside of the U.S. Last time I was in Canada, I typed google.com and was redirected to google.ca). Just a heads-up.
my guess is quite a bit, they went viral and became the most well known social bookmarking site. I think a lot of it was due to being included in social bookmarking plugins for all CMS's, apps like sharethis/addthis, etc. There's a rumor that del.icio.us is actually moving over to delicious.com
