with that said, i think if done correctly, this can/will work

im suprised one doesnt exist already

the problems ure gona run into, like others have mentioned, are spammers

wikipedia manages to survive becuase they have a huge legion of mods

also, a random person doesnt stand to benefit much from adding a spam link to a wikipedia page

where as a SEO company/person (read: ur entire userbase) will be much more inclined to do so

 

We do what we feel is right, regardless of what others think or do (at least I do). The day I allow others to stop me doing what I feel is right is the day I actually click on some spam and buy a shedload of vicodin and drink the lot. I might even by 100 Cialis & Viagara to help make life easy for those paramedics who have to carry me out LOL

This is an OPEN forum, you made an OPEN request for help. You didn't specifically ask ANYONE for help, people just did help. Why not be gracious and say thanks to those who have helped?

Social networking is a funny thing, have you read anything about it? it runs the premise that everyone is connected to everyone else on the planet by an average of 6 steps. Imagine that.

Why is it that people think they are the most intelligent beings ?? and i just asked if people would help with that and there are people pointing me out as a scammer. i have also dealt with lot of clients and i have been on these forums for a long time, and many a times, i see ppl here are rude, ignorant and they think if they can give a bad rep, they got a great power.

i dont even care for such a rep in which you dont even know the person who gave a red to you.


the message was viewed by lot of ppl, those who didnt want to help, just looked at it and followed any of the two steps.

1. they just ignored the idea.
2. they came to site and added something to it.

i didnt expect ppl to argue on the issue if i am presenting it as a no profit thing or it is something i want to benefit from.

I totally agree to your point. But imagine, i came up with an idea and people are denying it with few baseless things and telling that this is a scam.

As you wanted me to be polite while asking for her, read the first message and you can imagine i was polite, but when ppl keep on finding faults, i wont be polite..

and there are some smart ppl who will not contribute a page to our wiki, but will waste their precious time in reading my reply to their post and then get annoyed, and they can waste their time in writing on this message board.

also, if our wiki becomes a success, there would be lot of people who would like to become moderators and they will help us in eliminating the spam.

there could be some options added where in only links from members are having a follow tag and those from spammers can be made "no follow"

Or maybe the members only get a chance to edit. a person who can spend 10 min to write something, can even spare 1 min to register.

The site was having PR 0 when i posted this message. Pages indexed were only 200.

Now, the website has PR 5 and many other pages have decent PR.

the pages indexed went to 1000 soon and

now there are 10 K pages in google.

i know the effect of links that come from a wiki, and how good they can be. These people do not realise that.

the link to their SEO services from a SEO WIKI could have helped their websites a lot. Also it could bring in targetted audience.

the options were unlimited, but some people were just here to discard the idea.

Anyways, i hope the site will pick up soon. We are already getting 130 visitors a day to different pages which isnt too bad for a freshly launched site.

I know that I wouldn't have red repped you as I have only red repped 4 maybe 5 people in all the time I have been a member here. And I joined this forum as soon as Shawn announced he was setting itup more or less..

Look for the positive , look for the silver lining. Everytime ANYONE posted to this thread, it would have shot to the top of the new threads page. This would have brought you those 'many page views' you mentioned.

Can you please point out for the benefitters of others where I accused you of being a scammer? Where did I come up with any 'baseless things'? My post is a constructed post based on the fact that you are preventing Googlebot from following the links within the site. The WHOLE point of a resource is to provide a central point where both people AND search engines can gain access to the content on the web. I have not looked recently, but you were blocking googlebot from following links to these resources. Hence my comments about it not really benefitting anyone but you.

I edit on many respected directories, and regularly add content to those directories, I spend a lot of time on forums helping people where I can. Had the software not blocked spiders from accessing the information I posted I would probably have signed up and got on with it. Finally as for your comment on 'not knowing how to correct the nofollow tag. Your signature says you are an SEO, surely you can change a little piece of code in a php page?

I wish you well on your Wiki, but think you should maybe look at your people skills if you intend building an online community.

And i have experts in ASP and no one in PHP, wiki is something really big to tweak into and that too coded in php.

As wiki seo is a not for profit thing, i have no troubles to remove a "no follow" tag. i know two php programmers and both of them tried to check, but they couldnt find how to deal with this.

Am sure, this issue will be dealt with.

and as you said about red rep, i owe you one green one as well.

i think we made it a thread for rep being added or deleted. if you search the forums of general chat, you can find a lot of threads abt getting red rep.

btw, i have more red rep than you got, and it really doesnt matter to me.
Its only in cases when ppl dont like what you say and they disapprove your idea. and in case your idea is helpful, they give a green.

 

The only time i will red rep someone is if they are stating advice that is wrong. I will first go to the thread and post a correction of the information, pointing them to various trusted places online (such as googles own pages where state the basis of my argument). If the person still refuses to accept they are wrong, then I will red rep them to make sure that newbies know they are not respected on this forum.

We have a great duty in forums such as this. Many people throw advice out like it doesn't matter. They do not seem to realise that what they say and do is acted upon by people. The information we give out can change the lives of small business people, and when someone gives out advice about spamming that will get a site banned possibly, and then refuses to admit to it, I will red rep.

I would never red rep because I thought someone was just dumb! What is the pioint, they are probably too dumb to know their dumb
