Hi all, i have a question.. Every time i link to other website i always afraid that it will hurt my serps.. I heard that if you link to a spammy site then it would hurt your site seo, does it true? Can you describe spammy site looks like.. Thanks in advance
There are different levels of penalty some sites are penalized more severely than others. However, if a site has been banned from google and you link to it from your site it can hurt your rankings in the serps.
Linking to "bad neighbourhoods" could hurt your rankings. A bad neighbourhood has never been defined, but casinos, porn and other similar kind of sites are said to be included in it. That doesn't mean every casino site is a "bad neigbourhood" though. As for the site being spammy, you don't need to put magnifying glasses on to identify one, do you?
If you find a site useful and you think it would help your readers, then by all means link to it. The best links are deep links, so link directly to the page that you find interesting. If you ask because you are exchanging links with another site, then don't Exchanging links regularly will hurt your serp's more than linking to a bad neighborhood. Try to create one way links both incoming and outgoing from your site, that's natural and will not get you banned. It is more unnatural for a site to receive hundreds of incoming links when they are not popular and not creating outgoing links. Linking is a simple process, it is when you try to cheat the system it becomes complex, just do what comes naturally. Charles
"It is more unnatural for a site to receive hundreds of incoming links when they are not popular and not creating outgoing links." is this going to hurt my seprs or it just un-natural but does nothing to my serps. So you are saying that i should stop exchanging link with another site? Thanks for the new info Charles
U have to be very careful while place others URL in u. better make link with nofollow, if Google found nofollow will skip the bot and is safest outbound link
The more outbound links you have, the less favor you get from Google and other Webmasters. I wouldn't want my website on a page that has 1000+ outbound links, even if it's do-follow (unless it's PR7+) You don't get much of the pie. Personally, outbound links less than 100 should be good. Lesser the better
Outbound links will not help or hurt a site from ranking. They may help if they have the right text in them due to on page optimization, but that would be the only way that they would help. They "could" hurt if you were linking to a banned site, or penalized site.
I would have a maximum of 5 link exchanges on each page and make sure all sites you link to have at least 0 PR , no grey bars. Link farms are frowned apon by google and its not worth the risk if you want to be in this for awhile.
Having outbound links does not necessarily hurt your serp ranking. I think I've read before about this topic on some google blog but forget the exact url. According to it, having links to other authority and informative sites is actually value added towards your site. It's like providing a references to backup what you have written.
One way link and two way link I started to confused on these terms. One way link means you put a link to a site which has not put link to you site. I'm I correct in this understanding? Then would one way link be more valuable that two way links?
So if i have an outbound link to a very authority site it is better to have do follow on it, and this is gonna make my serp better?
It won't improve your rankings at all, otherwise every page would just throw up some links to google, cnn, etc. and be ranked well. However, a few links to authority sites won't harm you at all. Unless you have agreed to provide a reciprocal link or something like that, I'd just no-follow them all. Good luck.
