I think it could be? it is free and creates PDF and handles spreadsheets better in many ways. Anyone?
Gone are the days of monopoly and Microsoft should look to innovate a lot more and be more reasonable in its license fees... to be able to even maintain its market share! More and more people are targeting their core area of competency with such open source products... making their customers, finally a KING! Regards, RightMan
Yes, maybe, but what about OUTLOOK? Is there a "GOOD" replacement for that? P.S. Also...don't forget....open projects have open holes.
I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for years. Easy to use compare to Outlook. And to make it better, there are plenty of add-ons that you can install too. - Dynashox -
I think it is too early to say how Office 2010 will perform, yes there are free alternatives such as Open Office, but generally Microsoft software integrates better with its many other products such as Outlook and Microsoft expression Web.
This is one single reason why Microsoft has still managed to survive... so far. If not for it, they would have long become extinct and endangered species! Regards, RightMan
I do not think MS Office 2010 will be killed by Open Office personally. I have no doubt that Open Office can be used as replacement of MS Office, but still, Open Office is not a perfect solution yet. If I could say, Google Docs has a much more chance to come over and kill MS Office series instead of Open Office.
I don't see it being "killed" but between Open office and google docs it's a pain in the rear for MSFT. Best thing for Microsoft is to pay whatever $ needed to buy open office from oracle and shut it down (in terms of business moves).
There are some problems moving from one to the other-when you open an MS Word document in Open Office and then move it back to the MS Word the formatting may be messed up. That can give problems when working in certain templates, and has led to me having to re-format a bunch of stuff. Otherwise, really I see no reason to use MS Office. I'd be happy if it died
It's like the old mans' house in the middle of a skyscraper construction zone, some people just wont sell because monetary value has no meaning to them. Open Office, the core mission/vision, is/was to provide free or 'cheap' (I think they have a $79 version too) version of office for people who just couldn't afford to shell out hundreds of dollars for subpar MSoffice.

It is possible, I remembered that I've used Open Office for some time because I didn't want to enter old serial for my MS Office. Since the version 2007 I got kinda used to new fancy look in MS office so I would like to see some more of it
