Bonjour! Will noFollow links actually HURT anything? I am only asking because in marketing such as posting a classifieds, most classifieds site make the links noFollow and am just curious if Nofollow links would hurt anything? I believe they just don't help count towards a backlink, right? Also, since link popularity is a bit different than the actual amount of backlinks, do nofollow links still help increase your site's link popularity? It's the amount your site is mentioned, sort of like a reputation, not how many links you have. I believe they will still help. Does anyone actually know?
It doesn't hurt your website, Google just ignores them. I do believe that if the same link, with the same anchor text that has been nofollowed on many different pages might have a negative influence, since Google will probably see that link as a SPAM link. If I'm linkbuilding though, I don't care about dofollow & nofollow. I just post articles, post on forums etc and use the same anchor (main anchor text) for 70% of the times and the remaining 30% are all different anchor texts. Hope it helps!
Remember folks, the Search engines are looking for natural inbound linking, and that most certainly includes some No-Follow...Your site will look way more natural if you have all types of links, and generally, that means a combonation of "DoFollow" and "NoFollow"... as I said, It's only natural for your site to have both!
Here’s the problem. Since Google is always looking to enhance the value of the visitor, then why would nofollow help the user? 1. Used properly, for example adding a nofollow to a terms and conditions page, make sense. We would not want to rank or market our internal T&C’s. They have no value to market. Companies do not promote or market their contracts to prospects. They market their marketing material, their business cards, brochures, etc. 2. When using nofollow to manipulate page rank, you’re in turn manipulating the search engines, removing the democratic value of the Internet and in turn, decreasing visitor value.
they don't harm the site, but for SEO or for link popularity, they are useless, but sometime you can get some traffic if someone come to your site through your nofollow links
If anything will do more good then anything else, they definitely won't harm your site. Some sites will "nofollow" links which are editorial in nature, so these links should count. Why would Google not want to count these links?
I don't think nofollow links hurt your site but it not helps link popularity. Classifieds site helps to increase traffic to your site.
No-follow links on high PR sites can be great for your traffic. They are not indexed by Google (there is some debate about whether other search engines index them) but they could drive targeted traffic to your site. For example, if you sell golf clubs and you are posting links to your site on golf forums and golf blogs that have a lot of readers, this could really result in actual sales.
Off page activity = Noffolow + Doffolow link building. More you are visible more effective for branding in SEM.
Nofollow definitely won't hurt your rankings. There's varying opinions on how Google, and other engines, look at nofollow links. Some believe that they're ignored completely, while others believe that they DO count, though PR is not passed.
I always tell my clients, Its always good to get a good mix of nofollow and dofollow links. This looks organic to the search engines.
