I am building an ecommerce site that will sell web apps and information products. Will not having Paypal as a checkout option kill my business? Even if I allow checkout with credit cards and other payment options? My Paypal account has been locked forever due to a dispute. They want $1500 to open it, even though I got scammed. Is it worth it? I know it probably is in the long run, but I don't know if I can overcome the principal of not giving into those Paypal Mother F*****'s!
Not necessarily, there are lots of other payment options, have you looked into google wallet? or potentially your own merchant account ? Having your own merchant account allows you to fully customise your payment gateway, which looks much more professional
I've gotten an account suspended before (although I got it un-suspended after a phone call). It's a really terrible feeling. Can't you use a friends?
You should have it.Open a new Paypal acccount by using one of your family member name. You look less trustable for many customers without Paypal.
You got scammed and Paypal lost $1500 real dollars on your account. How are they the scammers? You should be upset at the buyer and not Paypal...
Yes not having Paypal account is great negative step towards your business darkness. you must have a Paypal account for success of your business because most of users uses Paypal. I am having an advise for you. You must not pay $1500 to Paypal but you should create a new Paypal account.
There was once that my paypal got suspended I was very upset at that time. And then one of my friends told me that I can still access it through calling paypal cs. So, I called them through gtalk and then I got my paypal back. It's better to open a new paypal account. Don't pay that large amount of money when there's still other way that you can't spend money in dealing with the problem.
In my experience it won't kill your business, but you're shooting yourself in the foot if you don't have access to paypal on your ecom site. Just my 0.02
It won't necessarily kill business. However, you are better off having a Paypal account or in the very least, a way to accept Paypal payments. This is because Paypal is very popular. However, some payment processors will accept Paypal payments on your behalf after which you could tell them to send you a check.
It won't kill your business but you could lose some business. The fact that you don't have paypal as a form of payment also takes away some of your credibility as well. But, there are alternatives and you can do business without it. If you are opening an e-commerce site than you may want to consider what the cost of paying the disputed amount with paypal is vs. the cost of loss business because you don't have that payment option.
Although I'm not a fan of Paypal due to their business morals and the way they treat their customers, it's certainly a disadvantage if you opt to not use Paypal as a payment processor. Unfortunately they are such a large monopoly these days that they are widely trusted (God knows why!!) and your sales will most probably convert higher if Paypal is after as a payment option. WebDev
There is a way to open a paypal account on a company or you can open it on your wife or on any other relative, in case you trust them.
