Will my site wide ad be bad for my PR?

I have a paid for sidewide advert for my web site on a highly relevant Forum, as a result my backlinks have rocketed over the last 2 months. I see this as a positive SEO technique but at the back of my mind I have a niggle about too many backlinks too soon.

    Does anyone have any comments?

Some say good, some say no good, best thing is to check your stats. In any case it will not hurt you.

I figured that, cheers. At the end of the day, the ad is in the perfect spot for my site and so its a positive.

My doubt is that its possibly a bit too much too soon, but any new site needs a shot in the arm at the start.

A lot of backlinks in a short period of time may have a slight effect on your PR if you have a new site. (only Google knows the true effect) However PR only matters if you are selling links on your site or if you have decent SERPs to begin with so if your backlinks and traffic are growing(along with site revenues) don't worry about timing of your backlinks.

    Good luck.

Normally I'd say site-wides are NOT good mainly for 2 reasons:

    1) too many links too soon can trigger an algo's penalty (especially for new sites)

    2) generally, site-wides are acquired from off-topic sites that have little (or nothing to do with the destination site)

However, in your case the origin site's links are from an ON-topic, industry relevant website (tenerifeforum.com) therefore I don't see a problem.

The only question I would have at this point is...

How soon can I have my own scenic spot on beautiful Tenerife Island?!!!

"Tenerife, with its all year round sun, lower cost of living and beautiful scenery, makes an ideal place to purchase a holiday home or retirement home. Tenerife Property sales are big business."

Yes, on-topic links are the way to go, for shure.

You will get your scenic spot in about 3 months. (did somebody say that I was born optimistic ?)

Thank you guys, I was of the impression that the ad was good, it was bought with the intention of increasing visitor numbers and targeted visitors at that.

However after reading one or two posts about generating backlinks too quickly I was a little concerned but I thought that as all the backlinks generated would be relevant to my site I wouldn't get penalized for this.

    Cheers

By the way SEO Tutor, your right, pictures would have been better. Cheers

If side wides are bad, there are some sites that link back by tags to every page.. :D would that mean those sites are doomed

I would venture to agree that gaining too many links too fast might effect your PR but not so badly. I would recommend that you try start getting some links back to your site gradually from now on or just for a little while using a blog or article submission.
