Will my income decrease if ads are removed or relocated?

    Hi

    I have always had two ads on my site. One at the top and one at the bottom. There is also an ad that appears in the center of certain pages but never more than 3 ads on any single page. What I was wondering is if it is safe to remove or relocated the ad located at the top of my site. I ask this because I have read that there is a "bidding process" involved and I want to make sure that some company didn't bid on a top placement on my site and will drop me if I move or relocate the ad or remove it entirely.

    Thank you in advance for any input on this, BJ

    All you can do is test.

    Ads at the bottom only work if people see them. So if you have a site where people actually read your content then the block at the bottom may work.

    Ads at the top catch the attention of new visitors if placed properly. Content - any content above the fold is valuable if you have eyeballs to look at it.

    In regards to your bidding process it depends on the niche. In some small niches there may only be a handful of bidders (All Adsense ads are allocated by price/bidding of the Advertiser along with a quality score that only Google knows) thus in general the better ads appear first in a block of Ads. Better may not mean just highest paying, it could mean most relevant. Don't worry about that as much as just having ads that display that are targeted to your content.

    More ads is NOT always better. Don't try to populate every available spot on your site. Focus on what makes you money.

    On one of my sites I do very very well with one single Adsense Block above the fold and no other ads of any kind.

    Thank you for the very quick, helpful and thorough response!. So if I understand the bidding process correctly, some advertiser (or advertisers) has seen a listing for my site on AdWords, bidded on it and now their ad(s) are appearing on my site?. Is this how it works?. If so, my concern is that if I pull the ad, the advertiser(s) may lose confidence or not bid for placement on my site anymore. I guess I'm still a little bit confused as to exactly how the this bidding process works and how it might adversely affect ads that are relocated or removed.

    I guess the bottom line is this: Will I lose bidders/advertisers if for example, I removed the top ad for a month and then put it back up again? and... Do advertisers bid for advertising on your site or are they bidding on a specific spot on your page/site?.

    Thanks again for your help!.

    If ads are removed then your income from ads will decrease.
    ads = income
    no ads = no income

    bluejay's question is a thing of concern to me personally, i once thought of posting a similar thread but he has done so.
    for me, as far as ads placement is concerned, i remove or replace my non-performing ads with more active ones. like the poster that said ''test'', i click a particular ads from another ip (once in a while) to see how much i earned from that particular ads putting in ecpm and ctr under consideration. this has brought some changes in my ctr only for now.but i really can't say if it affects earnings!
