I have 2 UR L's pointing at the same page. To avoid duplication penalties, I created an index.php and an index.html in the root of my site, and I intend to point my second URL at the .php page. (My 1st URL resolves to the .html page) Both my UR L's have a pr of 4. My 2 index pages are different, but both are optimized well. I can use domain name forwarding as my domain registrant supports it. They call it URL forwarding, I assume it's the same thing? My question |-| Is this advisable, and will the SE's like it? If not, apart from 301, what can I do?
I am amazed! I have posted this question in 7 different forums in the last 24 hours, and no-one has any response. Is it possible that I asked such a sticky question that no-one knows? I dont think so. I couldnt get conclusive proof that a 301 is a perfect solution, so I just wanted some opinions on other alternatives ...
If the 2 urls show the same content without redirecting then its bad. As long as one just redirects to the other with a proper 301 then you are OK. Post the urls and I will check.
Thanks for the reply www.sunrise-lmg.com Main URL but not my choice for searches www.holidaypropertyrentalportugal.org Contains good keywords Which should redirect to which? How will you check?
You need to make a choice about your domain name. The longer one seems better to me even though it looks a bit too long. If you 301 redirect the pages on the www.sunrise-lmg.com domain to the equivalent new page on the new site you will be OK. Having both pages pointing at one place is not good.
If the 301s are done properly, I think it should be OK but I don't see why you would want two of the same filenames with different extensions. Wouldn't some other naming convention be less confusing?
