Will my ads be displayed on the coop if my site's weight is 0?

    Okay,

-- so my site is displaying ads.

-- I have composed my ad for others to display

-- site is validated to be live, but weight is zero

I understand ads are displayed with a frequency that corresponds to the weight of the validated site.

If this is a factor in some equation, then zero might translate to zero frequency of ads being displayed.

Will my ad not be displayed until my site weight reaches a nonzero value?

Zero weight = zero ads being shown in the network. You need to get you pages indexed in google and then you will get some weight.

that's disappointing, because now my ads are not displayed and yet I will be displaying other people's ads to 150+ unique visitors per day on one site, 500+ on another site.

doesn't seem fair. The whole co-op gets a free ride for the first month(?) any new site comes into the system or until the site receives a non-zero PR from GG.

granted if GG=the world then the site would likely not be getting enough visitors to matter, but sites do get indexed and might rank in other SEs even though these are not factored into the weighting.

why does this seem like all the advantages of being in the coop accrue to sites that already have the momentum?

new sites have to battle inertia, and meanwhile whatever ads they do display belong to sites that are already weighted.

oh well, thanks for the answer.

p.s. if I bring in another site will the referring site weight increase even if both sites are GG PR0 ?

if so, then it seems to make no sense to join this coop until a site is already indexed in GG and has attained a non-zero PR. is that inference correct?

The reason Google is used is because they have the API, and so it can be queried without Shawn running the risk of being blocked for automated queries.

Your PR makes a difference, but a PR0 page that is listed in Google will get weight, and therefore yes, the referring site will gain as well.

Pretty much the only time you don't get a benefit is while waiting for Google to index you, as I understand it.

There is no other method to make it fair is their because as someone else mentioned Google is the only search engine currently that has an api. Other methods such as uniques visitors can easily be manipulated.

Surely we want more coop members, but if my weight is zero, I would wait.
