eh not sure......haven't heard of them having any issues with ie7.com so not sure why yours would be different. maybe because yours is spelled all the way out and a little bit more deceptive by saying 'updates'? but again, not too sure.

I don't know if they will sue you or not.

But, by posting this thread, you have made it clear your intention to commercially benefit and trade on their intellectual property. Worse yet, you seek to intentionally confuse people who seek the Internet Explorer Update and provide them with a competing item.

Overall it is a very poor business plan. Even if you do decide to try something like this - don't damn yourself by announcing your intent to confuse the marketplace.

p.s. If they do come after you, you will lose.

They will send you a cease and desist order and it will scare the crap out of you, so it may be a waste of time.
They will only waste time suing you if you have something to take, unless they want to make an example out of you, which they do every 2 years or so, just to let everyone know "Who's the Boss"

Remember the kid Mike Rowe in Canada. That was his real name, and they sued him for having MikeRoweSoft.com
    He was 16.
I think he's working on a fishing boat in Alaska now, after he got out of rehab. (Just kidding):)

Actually, Mike Rowe settled for an X-Box, a trip for him and his family to the MS research center a new domain & site and an MS certificate course ...

I know, I was joking:) I remember after it hit the news, there was al kinds of MS backlash about being a heartless mega corp picking on children.
The point was it's a risk, and you never know how they will react, and it may not be worth the frustration.

It's also sorta a business plan...

Make something which will get the attention from a big corporation, try to settle for a "normal" amount they'll go for (like an X-Box ;-))...

Donno how good it would work though.

I read some where you can use add sucks and they cannot do anything I think it had something to do with paypaysucks.com or something like that

I think it would be easy to get listed for internet explorer update on google because Microsoft is the only competition

    I'll use the Title
internet explorer update takes too long switch to Firefox for fast updates

and then talk about how much IE sucks and suggest update their browser to firefox I don't think they could go after me they but they will want too.

Seriously. I would do it just for the sport. The game.
    Sounds Like a blast.
and if I got a letter, then deal with it then, but it sounds like a fun little site that you want to build.
    Do it man!

Sure, it is not your ass on the line. It is pure entertainment to watch someone else get screwed. This is clear infringement and to advise someone in a Legal section who is looking for advice to infringe is really pretty sad.

He has so little upside, a couple bucks, and the potential of catching major damages - why would anyone suggest he do it, other than for the sport of watching him get nailed later?

Hey, there have been may responses, including my first one that said, "Do not do it", but it seems as he is intent, so if you are going to do it, then you may as well make a splash.

The most they can do is send a cease and desist order, they can't sue you until after they send it and give you time to take it down.

I doubt they would anyway, but I guess the risk is there

    Not true.

They do not need to send a cease and desist letter, then can just file a trademark infringement suit.

p.s. Why do people who do not know the law deem themselves qualified to make incorrect statements of advice? If you don't know and are just guessing, keep it to yourself.

Wow, excuse me for saying anything

I thought it was under the dmca, but I guess this is a trademark thing and not a copyright thing

my bad, but you need to pull that stick out of your ass and cool down

If you are not sure, or are just guessing then simply say so. But when you give advice that is totally false and state it as fact, what do you expect, a hearty congratulations for misleading someone?
