Will moving servers affect SEO positioning

Hi guys, I am a novice SEO guy and have been in position 2-3 position in google for a few good relative keywords to my site and have had great traffic due to it. The shared Linux server I am hosting on is running an old version of php and mysql (version 4), I have been on it for years and this week they e-mailed me saying they have to retire the server and move all sites to a new server that runs updated versions of php and mysql (version 5) and that my site will have a new IP number once the migration is complete?

My question is: Can this affect my positioning in anyway?

    Thanks in advance everyone.

As long as your URLs stay the same and your content doesn't change, it should make no difference.

It depends on the quality of your new web server compared to the old one. If the old web server was really fast and effective and the new one is slow and sluggish then it could cause a problem but other than that I wouldn't worry about it!

unless your site is geo targeted and you are moving server to a different coultry, then it will not make any difference

no, it wont affect your ranking but make sure that your website should not stay down during moving process...i mean it should not down for long tile like 24 to 48 hours..it may affect the ranking...
one more thing, if you are targeting geographic market than domain hosting may affect ranking according to server location..

shouldn't make any difference at all unless you happen to move servers or host to another host that is sharing their IP's and some of the customers are so called bad neighbourhoods.

Off the top of my head, the only way you can be effected is as follows:

    1. If new server is faster, will have positive effect.
    2. If new server results in lots of downtime while site being crawled, will have a negative effect.

    There should be no issues.

As I recall, Google only shows the first 1,000 results, so how did you determine that?
