Will linking to 'naughty' sites have a bad effect?

    Hi everyone. I recently started a phpBB forum, so whoever has experience with this forum software you'll know they have a pretty bad spam problem. My question is, will having links to their spam sites in the memberslist have a negative effect on my site?

    I doubt that what you link to has much effect on ranking.

    It depends becuase off site factors shouldn't touch your ratings so much (i mean in bad links) but they do!

    They matter to your rankings, they matter to your hosting account if you have a public host (check your terms of service), and they matter to your advertisers.

    In short they can ruin your site.
