Hi there! I was wondering if linking from here or my profile would hurt my ranking (or my time until I get out of the "sandbox") in Google/Yahoo/MSN/Digg/etc? I have seen some people here state they don't put their sites in their profile or sigs for a reason, and since I don't know that reason I'm just wondering if I should pull my link from my profile. Thanks!
I agree, a few sig. links can boost your SERPs (and also traffic). They shouldn't lengthen your time in the so-called Sandbox - as long as you vary the anchor text and don't go crazy on the amount of links you build every day then you shouldn't see any adverse effects.
lol .... how many profile(s) you have here ? @ Anita : some people do not link to their sites from their profile to prevent being show on the search engines , that THEY themselves also learn techniques , while giving advice at the same time IMO
I doubt it will hurt your rankings...the worst that it can do is do nothing at all. I've found sig links to be more effective on some SE's than others. Apart from SEO considerations, sig links are a great way to attract other members of the forum to your site. I don't participate in any forum that does NOT allow sig links. Allowing them is the least that a forum can do for you for contributing to their content, IMO.
It won't hurt but it won't do you a lot of good either (you may get some good traffic if you post in forums that are very related to your website). I find it that having a link in your signature gets your website indexed by search engines very fast.
No, links to your website won't hurt you , unless you add massive "non-sense" links to your website (like links from pages with useless/duplicated/no content, especially those from link farms)
I tell you what, let me use your signature block for a year and i will report back to you whether or not it helped my sites. thanks Scott
the forum has a good ranking and a good internal link structure, probably you will see PR 0 because the topic is new, and can't get PR so quick, but it is still a good page to link from. But the big number of links on this pages makes this less effective.
Forum sig links, since they are one way links, can be positive with little or no damaging effects, but since you say your website is relatively new, try adding them gradually.
I've only seen positive effects in the serps for my links here... The only issue I have is the titles of the threads I have replied to show up in my "G" backlinks.
I agree with you. Links are very powerful. I was suprised how fast pages of this forum are in G results
It's one of the best things on this forum. I go to webmasterworld but I only read there. For some reason, I don't feel like posting because they don't allow links. There is much more value on DP so I would rather spend my time posting here and picking up the odd link for my clients in the mean time.
