Will It Hurt To Change My Blog Title?

I have a new Wordpress blog (about four weeks) and things really aren't going well. I have a static home page that is a review of the main product I am promoting. The title of that page is "Natural Ovarian Cyst Relief Secrets Review". I have my blog posts set up on a separate page.

I think I probably screwed up when I first set up my blog. My URL is http://ovarian-cysts-treatments.com. (If you look at it, please don't laugh too hard -- it's my first.) The title of my blog is Ovarian Cyst Treatments, with a tag line underneath, because I thought it was a good idea to have the title the same or similar to the URL.

I really don't know what I'm doing and I've taken advice from so many different places. My home page is ranked on page two for keywords containing the "Natural Ovarian Cyst Relief Secrets Review" and on page five without the word "review." (But they both seem to be dropping lower rather than rising.) None of my blog posts are getting ranked at all. They get indexed immediately (I have XML Sitemap plugin installed), but they're not ranking in the top 100. I've done a limited amount of backlinking through Ezine. I'm kind of afraid to put a lot of work into backlinking because I'm not at all comfortable that I have things structured correctly and I hate to put a lot of work into something that is already doomed.

I'm about at a point that I'm thinking of trashing this site and starting over because I'm afraid I've made so many mistakes that I'm already dead in the water. But before I do that, I was thinking about changing my blog title to something more similar to my home page title. Do you think this would be a good or bad idea -- or a waste of time?

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

I recommend keeping the site, at least for 5 months, and monitoring it. Maybe do a small amount of work on it here and there when you feel compelled... in time you actually might see it start to climb the ranks.

    Hi,
    Your panicking prematurely my friend.

The keyword in your domain name needs to be the 'hanging point' for your site.
So first off call your blog the same name as your domain name. Your home page post/page needs the same title and keywords.

So move the review to another page or change the title and keywords to match your domain name. DON'T mix stuff up.

If not already done so install 'all in one seo' and 'simple tags' plugins. Between them they will sort out your on page SEO. Just ensure you write the title of each post/page into the 'all in one seo' form title and a description that also includes the title of the post.
Your home page post title should also be your domain name keywords.

Your main domain name/keywords has only 1300 searches a month (Google adwords keywords tool) so you need to find related keywords and create new posts based on these new keywords to get more traffic. -One post per keyword – NOT mixed. Ensure the new post URLs contain the post title/keyword i.e. OCT.com/medicine-for-cysts.html – NOT OCT.com/e98/p2/.....

After that is all down to linking. If you look at the top 10 websites for your domain name keyword (i.e. search Goggle for ovarian cysts treatments). Number 4 is ovariancyststreatments.com. They have very little onsite SEO for the keywords but have 250 site backlinks. I didn't look to see what they were but you can put their url into Yahoo site explorer and they will show you the links.

That's your marker/competition. A good start would be to try and get the same links they have, or at least the high PR ones. Other than that you just need to get more (high PR) back links preferably anchor text with your keywords.

Work primarily on your home page and keyword but also link to each new post using it's own keywords. There is no reason why that should not be profitable site.

Thanks SO much. I've asked a million questions trying to get these kind of straightforward answers. I have the all-in-one plugin, but not the "simple tags."

Just a couple of clarifying questions. When you said to move my review to a page, did you mean a page or make it a post? Can a page that I would optimize for the words "Natural Ovarian Cyst Relief Secrets Review" get ranked as easily as a blog post?

My keywords in my blog title and url are "ovarian cysts treatments." When I select keywords to make my blog posts, do they all need to be long-tailed versions of that keyword (ovarian cysts treatments) or will I be okay as long as they contain the words "ovarian cysts"?

How important is having categories? I'm kind of having trouble, in this particular niche, coming up with different categories.

    Again, thanks.
