Here's a bit of a primer for you: Dar al-Harb vs. Dar al-Islam.

I thought you were a Muslim? Have I got you confused with one of the other Paulistas?

I am a Christian, not a Muslim, just that I have been to many places and know a lot of Muslim friends. Thanks for the primer :)

The article is talking more about Islamic extremism per se.

Most of the victims of the Islamic extremists are muslims.

You can't make it more clear than that.

I am not denying that the recent spate of news about terrorism are orchestrated mostly by Muslims, but I hope to distinguish between moderate mainstream Muslims and extremist Muslims.

Will.Spencer provides a good glimpse of the thoughts of extremist Muslims. I would really like to hear more about moderate mainstream Muslims to balance out the views.

Muslims are the No. 1 victims of extremists and the average muslim on the street is the middleeast is in sympathy. Until the muslim street denounces terrorism the problem with get worse. It didn't take much for the muslim street to get worked up about the mohamed cartons and go on a rampage.

I'd like those "moderate" Muslims to stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution.

Some are. There is quite a good Islamic presence in the U.S. Marine Corps right now.

But far too many "moderate Muslims" are unwilling to denounce evil when the cause of that evil is Islam.

This will not change until Islam changes -- and one of the tenets of Islam is that any change is completely unacceptable.

    It's quite a pickle! :(

Polygymy allowed by Islam is a great sorce of terrorism. In order to have enough supply of women either women have to be captured or the supply of men need to be reduced.

In a country like Saudi Arabia there are 4000 princes and each prince gets a monthly allowance of $250,000. That's enough to support 20 wives each. That means that there are 76,000 men unable to find wives.

Perhaps that's why it's not safe for women to travel unescorted in Saudi Arabia...

This is the root of the problem

By not doing so they are allowing the respected religion to be hijacked, no use talking about the benevolent side of Islam if there are terrorists killing and beheading others under the name of Islam and hijacking for such purposes.

So far the Muslims I had seen are moderate, it is a pity such are totally overshadowed by the actions of a few terrorists who called themselves as Muslims.

the problem is the great divide in culture. US people do not understand Muslim culture, and I believe the same is true about Muslim people and US culture, but to a lesser degree since they watch US movies, love US actors, are fans of US singers, eat at Local Macdonalds, buy Nike shoes... US People are afraid of what they do not understand, and whats even more frustrating is that I don't think they are very interested in learning about either.

    Peace.

Saudi Arabia’s Mutaween religious police has 10,000 members. There are about 22 million citizens in Saudi Arabia.

And yet who has the power? The ten thousand fanatics.

Those ten thousand could all find themselves dangling from ropes tomorrow, but that's not even necessary. All that is necessary is for the Saudi people to speak up and say "No. We're not going to let you abuse us any longer."

Incidents like this one should never be accepted.

I am going to have to disagree with this one.

Knowledge does not equate to tolerance.

I have been to about two dozen countries. I have lived and worked extensively outside of the U.S. I have studied the Qua'ran and the Hadiths. I have Muslim friends. I married an apostate Muslim. I follow the world news quite in depth.

Osama bin Laden has traveled extensively. He has lived and studied extensively in Dar al Harb. He had non-Muslim friends in the past. He has studied our systems and he appears to keep up reasonable well with current events.

And yet, there is no tolerance between Osama and I.

I am completely intolerant of letting little girls burn to death because they are not wearing hajib's. I am completely intolerant of executing women for "witchcraft." I am completely intolerant of turning innocent children and retarded women into unwitting suicide bombers. I am completely intolerant of whipping or executing women for the crime of being raped.

There are a lot of things which I am intolerant of -- and I have no intention of becoming tolerant of.

Osama is equally intolerant. He is intolerant of allowing women to serve food. He is intolerant of allowing women to choose their own modes of dress. He is intolerant of democratically elected government. He is intolerant of religious freedom. He is intolerant of Dar al Harb and the people who live there. He is intolerant of the lack of jizyah which he has been receiving.

Similarly to myself, Osama has no intention of becoming tolerant of these things.

Knowledge isn't the problem. There isn't a lack of communication; there are real fundamental differences here.

I have to agree with you on this:

Knowledge does not equate to tolerance.

The Iranian President was a professor in the university, I do not think he lacked knowledge, but he had near zero tolerance of Israel.

The Muslims understand our culture just fine.

That's why the extreme one's want to kill us.

Go bring a Playboy to Saudi Arabia and explain the culture to them. I'm sure they'll love you.

The weirdest thing about the arrest of the "American" woman in Saudi Arabia for drinking coffee with men is that the religious police then forced her to strip naked and pose in weird positions for them.

Somehow that's all good? Islam is just weird. Drinking coffee is bad, but sexual assault is A-O-K!

there are 58 islamic countries in the world and with the speed it's spreading in the world, it seems that it's going to rule on world one day.
I guess, that's why usa is spending billiions of dollars to kill muslims and destroying islamic countries.

Drinking coffee with men are bad :) (if you are a woman). You must be more specific, or I won't dare to even step into an Islamic country the next time, I will die without coffee.
