Will India ever be athletically competitive?

    I see a lot of posts in the forum about cricket and it made me think that India is very limited in sports. I looked at how successful has been in the Olympics and Indian is one of the least successful countries in terms of medals for population. Are there any prospects that India will become competitive in athletics, swimming, soccer, cycling, winter sports, etc in the near future?
