To me the root cause is corruption and population and for both these we that is general public is responsible :(

We may not become super power in 2020 as said but I still feel one day we will become!!

It will not become a superpower anytime even in the next 100 years ever but either way not in my lifetime. Its is the same with China it just has too many people. A superpower cannot have 1.1 billion people in unison.

The reason the U.S is superpower is because of unity its even in the name United States of America.

if India could get over its past it could be buy highly highly unlikely its because they are fighting amongst themselves

I beg to differ, according to SIPRI, USA military expenditure for 2007 is at USD 578,315 million compared to India's USD 24,249 million

I feel that this is far more significant rather than having a United in front of your country name.

Wisdomtool, the main reason for our expenditure is becuae of the global war on terrorism. We are spending a lot of money (around 50 Billion dollars a month) Just on Iraq. Turn around and look at what our peace time army was spending.....not very much (don't have exact numbers and am too lazy to look them up :D)

The main reaon we are a superpower is because it used to be that Americans took pride in what we did. Everything. Now....not so much. We are getting to lazy of a country and I fear America will fail within the next 100 years if we don't reverse our course and get back to working hard. The average american just does enough to get paid. Its pathetic. The average american doesn't know what it means to sacrifice for the country to make it better. (I did and still do) and that is pathetic. A president I'm not too fond of due to his politics (I'm a rep. he's a dem) once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." JFK.

Best line I have ever heard and everyone around the world should be like that. I hate big government, but, when it comes to sacrificing, we all have to get our asses off welfare and start helping out.

India, I hope they can look into themselves and see what the need to do. Them and Pakistan need to stop their little spat they have going on and then, and only then, India can look into its own borders and start its way to joining the US and China, and how the USSR used to be.

AND STOP WORKING FOR SO LITTLE!!!! (That stems from the poverty though)

    Agreed!!

India is showing change at very faster pace and it will soon be very near to become Super Power. Although it may take some time(20-25 years More) but ain't that very less as compared to US which took around 150-175 Years after independence to beomce Superpower.

I remember I wrote it somewhere here at DP that the next superpower
would not necessarily be the US or Europe, or the traditional "imperialists"
but could be any of the newly-developed and developing countries in Asia or Southeast Asia, and India is a potential. However, the priorities of India seem not geared at that direction; instead of devoting much time to space ventures and nuclear capabilities and other warfare improvisations, India could well concentrate on economic and socio-political development, and at the very least should also have the ambition and correct motives of going
it out into the global economic and political arena and make itself felt
    in the community of nations.

Antarctica will be the next End-all Superpower.

It can flood us all with up to 100 feet of sea-level rise if you consider that once the ice melts the land will also rise up and displace lots and lots of water.

Either that - or my Penguin Army.

I know some dumpasses come and say 'No' here.

Anyhow, check out the forum. Word 'India' is being spelled much other than any other so-called developed nations. Those thives are worth for none. They looted everyone and says they are super-powers now.

And still they are trying to loot others now too.

We don't want certificate from the looters.

India is a SUPERPOWER in IT now and we will become SUPERPOWER in all fields very soon despite of any internal problems we may have.

In your definition, I will also be a dumbass. You can't live in a well and say that that bit of sky you are seeing is the world. Even if you are correct, do listen to others' opinions. True greatness is when someone can learn to listen to and accept others' rights to be different. It takes a wise man to find out others' errors and even a wiser man to keep quiet when he knows he is right.

Why they lady are being beaten by those people..That's so sad. Back on the subject. I agree with some people, Poverty is very high in India it will take times for India to be a superpower, in the next 50-75 years India might be a power country not a superpower..

What make you said that..last time i checked majority of them big tech stuff are being developed in US, Japan and the UK. Don't get me wrong people do look over India for IT stuff, but mainly because of cheap labor.

    Not until the Indian voters

    2. Stop electing criminals to parliament
    3. Stop electing film stars to the parliament
    4. Stop electing illiterate people to power
    5. Stop electing people way past their expiration date
    6. Following the rules themselves
    7. Forcing the police and bureaucracy to behave in a civilized manner
    8. Give women the freedom to live life as they please
    9. Get rid of the caste system
    10. Give freedom to people like Kashmiris, Nagans, Manippoorees, Assamees etc who want their own countries
    11. Force the government to provide clean water to every one of the 1.25 billion population
    12. Force the government to provide elctricity to each of the 1.25 billion population
    13. Force the government to start making India's own weapons other than buying it from the Americans or the Russians
