I have a tech blog on blogspot. It is over 3 years old. Now I want to import the techblog to wordpress. But If I import to wordpress with my own domain, will google give a less ranking for my new domain coz the contents already exist in blogspot,my new domain will have an exact replica of the blogspot.Should I delete my blogspot blog to get more ranking for my new domain ?

This is the same problem I was thinking a month ago. You may be very much interested in Wordpress. But it would be better to use custom domain for blogger instead of using wordpress if you ask me. Because, as you thought this may create problems like result filtering. But try to know more information and views about this from other users too.

Anytime you change your site you introduce SEO changes. So the answer is of course yes.

Don't make a mistake of deleting your blog as it will be permanent. You can use noindex tag to let it not indexed by search engines. This would be better idea than deleting.

It will affect ur SEO, yeah.. It will, of course..

My advice is If you really want to build wp-based blog, then build it as new blog. And place a "This blog was moved to new blog at blablabla.." post in your 3-years blog. And Your visitor loyalty can be seen..

You'll need to build your SEO from first, by the way..

i get mostly organic traffic..its really gonna affect my traffic..give me some tips so that I can make the transition smooth as possible..

can I put an automatic redirect when people come to my blogspot post pages to goto the homepage of my new domain ?

for example they come to a post about "getting admin rights in xp" in my blogspot..when they come to the page..a javascript should run onload of the page and redirect the browser to my domain homepage..

I shall not delete the blogspot blog,i shall put no-follow tags as told by dmssrinivas

Or can we give moved permanently tag or something like that ?

from what you have posted, i infer that you have got a .blogspot.com blog and now you want to move it to your own domain with wordpress..

The best solution to do this effectively without loosing any SEO is

1)First switch your blogger blog to a Custom Domain form the Blogger Settings Tab(the same domain where you need to move the blog to)
-this will do 301 redirects of all your blogspot urls to the corresponding domain based url yourblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/post.html will get redirected to yourdomain.com/2009/12/post.html Similar would be the case with all your blog urls, label pages etc..

2)Now if you aren't satisfied with blogger and would love to move to wordpress then please wait for some months.. by this time all your old blogspot links will disappear from google and they will get replaced by your new domain url..

3)After this process is complete you can migrate your blogger blog to wordpress using the same permalink structure as your blogger blog..

This means you wont loose any visitors or any SEO

moving to a blogger custom domain would be so easy.. just a CNAME change and some changes in the settings..

BTW when you migrate to WP,make sure that you keep the permalinks intact..
