Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by visioninfotech, Jul 25, 2005.

as critters did to his website and increased his earnings as discussed in this thread.
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=17104

i think its againsts the TOS as now they include that adding images above ads is a kind of deceiving the visitors to believe that as are links on the website and might have more information on the image displayed above ?

any ideas on same, and congrats to critters as well.
    thanks

Personally I'm surprised Googster cares. Sounds like a surefire "trick them to click" method to me. :)

well the aim was to start a new post, the reason being, my question could have been missed
and in addition to this, the other thread was too long and people just go off topic. i wanted a concrete answer and reading your last post gave me the answer
    thanks for that explanation.
and i think its against TOS and google will have troubles with it

here is exactly what I got sent from Google. The don't specificially mention a TOS violation, they seem to be tip toeing around the situation for some reason.

for the 10000000000'th time, it is not against the TOS, never has been, and for now, still isnt... but they are pointing out that it is best to geep them general and define them as not part of the ad unit more.

before i started the last thread i researched it and got google to OK it, i would never post anything that would make people violate the TOS.. im just too nice a guy :)

i.e. no images above the ads of arrows.gif flashing and pointing down with neon signs saying click here, however generic images suitable for your site are fine.

    Critters,

While it may not be a TOS violation now, it could eventually turn into that. I'm sure when they told you it was OK they had no idea that word about the technique would spread around the net like a wildfire. They have defiently shifted their stance a little in the past few days. It won't be long before some idiots want to take it to far and G will pull the plug on the whole thing and ruin it for all of us.

yup, tho you have done something in this thread that one day may be against the TOS.. you posted, in full, an email from a google employee, word for word.

Quoting google emails is not in the TOS, but in one of my early emails to Google I had the sense to ask when I was told something in an email if it was OK to post it and was told that no correspondence should be make public (even telling you this is kind of stretching that request) I will suggest to them that they put something in the footer of all emails to that effect. One day it may be in the TOS.

My point is, stick the TOS as they are now, anything you can not find in the TOS (images above ads, quoting emails) ask, and you will get an answer, a well thought out and deliberate answer. If anyone is going to push their luck by trying to trick people with the whole images over ads then Google will have words.

Well dude, I think you were wrong there. That thread is an ongoing learning experience for all who have experimented with the principles in it. You should post your concerns there.

Heh. Wouldn't be surprise if Google has a couple of folks monitor all "big time" webmaster forums' Adsense sections for discussions about their product, looking for cheaters, new ways to cheat them, etc.

i think critters made a revolution with that technique
so much that lot of webmasters tried the technique and now i see lot of websites with images over ads.

It might have been noticed by google and they updated their TOS

just my 2 cents, but i think Critters has moved lot of things ;)
