Will I lose all my site data if I do not renew my Webhosting

Hi, I paid for 12 months of webhosting, and it will expire soon.
I was wondering: if I don't renew it right away, will I lose all my data that I hosted? Or will it come back if I renew it at a later time. It is hosted on hostgator.

I ask b/c I would like my site to not be hosted for a few months as I build it, and then host it later.

Do you think Hostgator are a free online storage facility for your files? Don't be daft, of course they will delete your files when your hosting ends.

Most hosts will suspend your sites pending payment. After so much time they will terminate. If you plan to move hosts, and you are suspended any decent host will let you get a backup of your files to transfer off. If you get a terminiation notice, kiss your sites bye bye.

In your situation, notify your host of your intention, and see if they will work with you. Explain the situation, they will most likely give you a backup, or at least leave your site in a suspended state for an extended period of time. This is NOT the best route to go, however, as alot of hosts tack on a late fee for overdue invoices, and while you are suspended, you still get monthly invoices, so the total you have to pay will skyrocket while you wait.

First they will suspend your account and I think after about 20 days they will terminate it and you will loose all of your data unless you back it up.

Many hosts do terminate sites after 20-30 days after non-payment. Every host has different policies for termination of account after non-payment, you may ask your host about their policies. Best way to have your backup downloaded on your local machine for safety.

You can backup your files and purchase a new hosting account when needed.
However, do not let your domain to expire.

    Yes you will lost it.
What make thing worst is your hosting provider will asking a lump sum of money from you if you wanted to retrieve back your files.

Better is you take a backup on your local machine instead of paying $50 or more to retrieve your backup from the hosting provider.
