Hi, I'm working on optimizing a website which used to have very long title tags i.e. 12 words long. Now I’ve reduced it to 7. It used to be something like this: Clients website name Ltd - Personal injury solicitors clinical negligence human rights lawyers And now reads: Personal injury lawyers - Clients website name solicitors It looks better but do you think this will lose me a lot of traffic? Sorry can't disclose actual site.
In many cases, it isn't necessary to use the company name in the title. You could use that in the description, and use the title tag for your long-tail keywords only. Title could be something like... Personal Injury Solicitors | Clinical Negligence | Human Rights Lawyers Then, use the company name, along with an excerpt of verbiage from your page, etc. in your description. That way, the company will be identified in search results, and you can use the whole title tag for keywords only. Make sense?
I agree with Tara33 about the usage of your company name in the title tag. Figure out keywords and keyword phrases for your website and include them in the title tag. But as far as I know Goggle prefers short and readable title tags to long ones, so it's up to you to decide. Also use different title tags for different web pages in your website. Good luck!
