I am just about to launch an ebook that I have written. I wanted to register the ebook title as the domain name. mytitle.com and mytitle.net were taken and parked, so I picked mytitle.org. Now someone has spooked me by telling me I will get in trouble because my site will be a profit site (it will be a direct sales page for the ebook - it's not like it is an Adsense site that I could say is just covering its costs). Is this true that I am not allowed to use a .org site for this purpose? I thought it was a convention that non-profit sites use .org, not a requirement. .info is available so I guess I will register that too - just in case - but I would prefer to leave my site on the org domain now that I have bought it and pretty much uploaded everything.
Yes, I had the same doubts when i saw many .orgs making profit, coz I'd read in this in my 8th grade computer science textbook: .org - non -profit organization.
yeah they say non-profit, but you can still use it for profit.. though org are normally used by non=profit organizations..
Initially that was the intention for the extension .org but was never enforced and doubt it ever will. My kind of science class where you can talk about the internet. http://helpdesk.easyspace.com/faq.php?do=article&articleid=1205
