    SEs dislike automated queries to their databases. Avoid this if possible. To query Google database obtain a Google API key which will allow you to query Google db 1000 times a day.

    Yes, use the API, don't abuse it. They do discourage automated query type robots, etc...

    I know someone who got banned from using google and got the message that they must have some virus/malware that was using a script to maliciously make repeated requests.
    They got rid of all spyware, etc of their computer and could use it again. And this wasnt a twice told tale, I was told directly from the person cos he wantes advice how to solve the problem.

    I was banned by google (automated Link popularity and staff) and at each search what I made I need to pass a "random image" checking. It was for several hours.

    Now I'm using the Api from google with 1000 query's per day.

    From then I made several thousands of query's on yahoo ... and nothing ... :)

    Regards
    Adrian

    Dont mean to be rude so ill say this, he was not banned.. I have had this message several times for searching selective strings. Google use it as an anti hack measure.. Example when PHPBB bug came out and the worm used google to search for infected websites via;

    allinurl:index.php?file=filename

    Thought you should know.

    See the post above yours.

    Also it wasnt just on one search, it was whenever he tried to use it. He was disallowed from doing so.
    The defnition of banned, not allowed to use a service.

    To do automated queries, you do need an API...some get multiple API although that is against their TOS...I believe they have a commercial API for more then 1k searches
