Will hosting a site in Australia affect search rankings?

    Hi,

Be gentle with me - this is my first attempt at creating a niche site and I'm treating this as a bit of an experiment. I know that US hosting costs next to nothing but as I already have a server here in Australia, I figured that I may as well host it here.

Is this likely to adversely affect my rankings on google.com? I know that the Australian version of Google (google.com.au) indexes sites if they have a .au extension or if the server's IP is within Australia. This particular site will be using a .net domain.

Maybe adding geoposition tag will help more. Just find out the exact geoposition where you want your server to be and add meta tag on your header. Its working for my targeted visitors.

Find out more about geotagging on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotagging

    Good luck :)
