Ok. So yesterday i registered a domain name and basic hosting with hostgator. The website domain name contains "freemovies" in it ex. freemovies58ghd.com ..... So i get an email from hostator saying my site may violate terms of service, and i need to call and show its not credit card raud as well. So i call, verify my info and everything is fine, and then she asks me about my site and name...i say that i will be hosting a forum for some friends as well as some links..and then they ask the dreaded question: "Will you be hosting any illegal or copyrighted content like movies"? I say no and that I would never think of doing that. My friend told me all i need to do is put a special disclaimer at the bottom, but i really dont want to set my whole site up and have hostgator cancel my sh*t 4 days from now... are they keeping a close watch on my site? Has anyone had a similar experience like this with hostgator? Am I worried about nothing or are they just waiting to cancel my account? *btw i was going to implement cpalead on this site if that matters at all. Any help is greatly appreciated because I have never dealt with anything like this before. Thank you
Can't blame them. They are only making sure you won't be breaking the rules and I'm pretty sure they'll watch your site closely so you should be careful what you post. Last year we had someone with a domain that included the word "warez" - we had to verify with him and let him know that it's not allowed on our server. He explained his case, verified himself, and it turned out to be a legit site, small, not much content, definitely not illegal and didn't even have anything to do with warez.
Oh, they will definitely have a flag on your account, either forever or at least for a very long time, makig it impossible to pull any crap. Can't really blame them, it's their system and they are only keeping out that they stay within the legal framework. I guess they're not too keen on having DA's and the police walking in there and seizing servers. They do what they need to do, my suggestion would be to either go 100% legal with them or move elsewhere.
Don't mess with HG coz if they suspended you 1 time mean that they will keep close watch of your site. After all, you'll lose money and time if they ban your account. Try search for other host.
I think you need to read their TOS and AUP carefully and if you still not sure contact their support and ask the question.
Just contact them and tell them what you are going to do.....if they are happy with your proposal then keep a copy of their response (if via email) incase they go back on their word.
There are forums sharing Rapidshare and other links for illegal movie and pirated software downloads. Although you can say that you are not responsible, its your responsibility to keep site clean from warez and porn links. I am sure that Hostgator won't cancel your account if you are staying on their terms.
Not sure why you would say that because HostGator has always had great customer service with me for the past 4 years...
well they ban your account if some one report you that you host illegal content. if you want to do such thing better go for hosting in 3rd world countries were you can do anything you want. There many such service just search hosting forums.
they are going to keep a close eye on you and if you pull anything there going to terminate you before you get a chance to say no...
