    I have a question for the sitemap guru's out there.

    If I submit a sitemap to google with the link 1234.html which has a link to 4321.html (not included in the sitemap) will google index 4321.html by following the links from 1234.html?

    Yes , google will still index it .
    But you must NOT completely depend on sitemap to get your site indexed.
    Get some back links from other sites also.
    When google comes to your site , it indexes a few pages in one go and then later returns for more and updates. Let it come again.
