Will Google still consider this duplicate content?

I am in the process of optimizing my site and trying to improve my page rank. I have lots of duplicate content on my site, non-the-less the 0/10 page rank. I have recently learned from you guys that duplicate content is a big "No-No".

I have a forum based site I am trying to develop, and I would like to offer my users at least one or two current and relative news articles on my home page.

If I pay for news articles & get permission from a site like AP.org to put their articles on my site, does Google still consider it duplicate content when the bot crawl my site?

Definitely.

 

I found duplicate content on the main page a real problem but anything in the sub domains seems to have not issues. Just make sure the main page is very different!

 

That's interesting. Is it becuase the search engine will rank page by page but not site by site?
