We all know where the sponsored ads are currently on Google but I was told by an associate of mine that Google may be in the works of taking up their entire 1st and possible 2nd page with AdWords instead of organic search results. Is this true? And if so how would this affect the current organic placement? How would this help Google's revenue or would it hurt them? Any knowledge of this would be very helpful. Thanks!
I highly doubt that Google would have sponsored results only on any page. Think about it. What would you do if you only saw sponsored results? Most people would think "this is a bias for companies trying to sell me something and I can't trust that". People also don't want to be shown just ads. So they'd go elsewhere and use another search engine. If that happened, there would be no point of SEO. That would make a lot of people angry I think. Also, a lot of searches - probably most - are of the information variety, not to buy a product. I'm sure there isn't ads for "george washington birthday" so you'd still get a page of results, not a blank page because there's no ads for such a query. So if they were going to do this - which they are not - I think it would hurt revenue as people migrate elsewhere. Some other search engine would become the #1. SEO people would follow suit and instead of trying to be top page in SERPs in Google, it would be trying to do the same for this other engine. What is happening however is more real estate being taken up by sponsored searches, not completely pushing off the SERPs. You are seeing now and will more and more see pictured ads. Google will become more of a shopping site and this may actually increase their share for those looking for stuff. That means more revenues for Google. Granted some users may not like this and go elsewhere but in the grand scheme of things, more revenues as Google will be seen as a the search engine of choice for everything.
I really appreciate your feedback regarding my question. I didn't think that this would be a reality but the shopping does make sense as other sites like Amazon currently control the greater amount of market share. Obviously Google wants to rule the search world for shopping as well so this males perfect sense. Thanks again!
the same question was put up in a recent Meet with Adword guys, they said No however For some niches (Like real estate, Credit cards etc) where competition is so high, you can see ads more than normal ..
