I guess up to 2-4 words are fine, but if you take it too far, you might end up getting penalised. Can not say that the filename alone would invite penalty, but this would be a case of ecessive SEO. Together with other few parameters, this may result in some sort of penalties.
I actually meant the -----, like 5 of those in a row between 2 words. I have my reasons by doing this, but not sure what effect this has in SEO perspective
I don't think so, but having overly long names does not make sense other than stuffing keywords, which google does not like.
Digg is not the only site with long urls. Look at the search sites listed in google. Some pages have very long urls and they are listed well for some terms. Amazon would be another one listed well and long urls.
Long name links to GOOGLE? I think long url will not be penalized by GOOGLE.. I see some sites that have long URL names....but the disadvantages of that is for the users.. short and easy to remember name url must be use for the sake of the users.......
I'm pretty sure the - is seen as a space, which would make the title odd. What's the point of such filenames, anyway?
long file name should not be penalized from google. also it will not affect the user much because most of the use will go to files through the links not by typing file name. I think it should be fine.
