Will Google fall down? If so, when?

Being, as many of you know, firm supporter of Ask.com, I want to ask you -- is Google destined to fade into obscurity as its predecessor, AltaVista, or struggle as Yahoo?

If so, when it will occur?

I doubt it - they're always rolling out lots of new ideas and products and 'Google' has almost become a word in its own right in the English language.

Not until someone else makes a better search engine.

Well, Ask *has* a better algo, but its index is quite small compared to Google, because Ask don't have enough money to afford more firepower, and they won't get any until they grow bigger.

    Rich get richer, anyone?

Ask crawls very infrequently, so to match up with google they need to invest huge amount.

I think Google will stagnate as Apple did in the 90's or they will fall if they become complacent like Yahoo & Microsoft were; i.e. not making any real worthy innovations.
It just always happens. If you are talking about stock price, a high flier has to stall at some point or correct to the average. You tell me which company keeps going up and up, year after year. among the few names I can throw out, Cisco, GE, & PG did it for years, ( maybe a decade(s) ? ). Corrections come.

I agree that Google does have many advantages since we are in a global market.

No, they are not. Google is here for the long run - a Microsoft for the Internet age, if you will.

i think if the universal search becomes fully integrated you'll see people moving to MSN because its integrated and easily available and without bloat... just like google used to be ... ho hum... so based on current speculation id say by the end of next year google search engine will be dead in favour of their assets like youtube and other online tools...

As all things in life Google will someday stumble, and grow, and stumble, and grow, and then finally die. If you have lot's of stock in Ask, and are waiting for Google to die I would suggest selling it, and buying Google stock.

Ah, I don't have any stocks. I prefer hard cash.

    And... is Ask publicly trading?

Would it matter? They are incorporated, so they at least have private stock.

I used to think that with all the new competion Google would be forced to get better and pay out more, but it seems that they are getting worse. I like Google more but I was forced to put a bidvertiser ad on one of my sites just because I could cutomise the look more than the Adsense ad.

The only thing that may happen to Google is an anti-trust lawsuit, as the manipulate search results to benefit their own products and not a fair and honest overview of the web.

They will settle, make some changes, and move on.
At this point, the only thing that can take Google down, is some kind of viral revolt from surfers and webmasters.

Dealing with Google is like being in an abusive relationship. You know it could be better, and you'd rather not be there, but you are stuck.

I think Google may level off and may drop a little but they are to much like microdoft is with windows..They stay one step ahead of the competition. They aslo have locked up a huge following rather we like them or not. That will be tough to compete with..

Absolutely ridiculous statement. Did you not think before you posted that.

In addition Youtube is owned by Google!! it can only strengthen google.
