Not only algo matter. They do a lot of marketing work and usefull products like Gmail or Youtube. Monopoly is always BAD imho, hope we will see alternatives.

Thanks Jin, probably in 5 years to they may lose monopoly if they don't keep up selling value.

Google would stay as long as it provides quality work, quality search results, it doesn't have only search engine, it has many programs and all programs are more superior than others and the beauty is that most of the programs can be accessed in free.

First place today is no guarantee of the future. For example, the broadcast networks used to totally dominate TV ratings. Now cable has taken a huge market share. There are numerous other examples. Google will have to continually evolve to keep pace with a changing society and technological advances. All its competitors face the same challenges. If one or more of those competitors begins to "do it better", one day we'll see them at #1.

    Of course they will.

The law of physics dictates that nothing lasts forever.

The more scientifically accurate inquiry would be how long will it take for Google to lose their dominance?

The answer, is quite some long interval of time.

Enjoy it for what it's worth; and don't hold your breath for an inevitable successor.

    :)

Google doesn't have a monopoly to begin with. There are plenty of other search engines people can use.

In most countries of the world Google is number one. But as Russia, China or even in the Czech Republic is not one in the search. In addition, people change habits, or technological innovation, good-type search on FB, Google can compromise. It is my humble opinion :)

Facebook already has searching through Bing since them and Google don't "get along" and honestly Google has never had a monopoly they just have a lot of things that people use on a daily basis, web searches, free email, document editing/storage, apps, android, YouTube, it's a conglomerate like any other they just seem to know that keeping things SIMPLE makes everyone happy and they've kept it simple since they started. Even the Google homepage and search results are still as simple as they always have been. Unless, of course, you decide to use the advanced features which tend to not matter in a normal search.

As far as Microsoft goes I'd rather have Google than Microsoft who always tends to just pour in millions or billions of dollars into making the same thing as someone else already has i.e. Bing & Zune.

If something better came up, it will beat Google to the ground. But in this moment, there is no such a thing, so Google will dominate some time for sure.

It wouldn't be so, as Yahoo wants to be unique, it wants to keep its identity, it doesn't want to copy stuffs of others, it is older than Google too.. lets see what happens in future.

Gooogle search algorithm is much better than algorithms of his competitors, and he's bought many companies who were searching in AI, speech recognition and so, and then implemented their inventions to his algorithm. He is now too big to fall and every month is bigger.

Monopoly is never good for growth. I am always looking forward to new and innovative ideas and as such am not in favor of Google monopolising any part of any market.

Competition is the catalyst for growth.

Google will continue to be the leader of the internet but the competition will definitely creep up as it is over the period of time for the goodwill of the internet as Google will continue to innovate in the field of search and social.

nah.. I think it's to late for them to lose their gigantic influence in internet. and that's because they can buy almost all the new potential competitors (just like facebook does).
