Hey, I would like to know if google will ever open an auction website against ebay.com Because i really am starting to hate ebay. So it would be awesome if google will open an auction website, because google has all the power to do so. I also heard that they were suppose to make one.... but then nothing happened.
Yea I heard google will be building a car next year that runs on static electricity and when parked horizontally it folds up to be a usable laptop But it hasnt happened yet laterz malcolm
If few companies start dominating every market like Google does, if it does indeed open an auction website, then it would stifle innovation spontaneity and creativity. Google killed rss feed reader software by using google reader, Other email services using tough competition from gmail, and so on.
Yea kinda makes ya hope they start up GoogleMarts... and start competing with Walmart whom has managed to take out mom & pops stores and other top stores to where they longer have any competition in the market. (why not? you only have 1 company to deal with like now MSN) laterz malcolm
i dont think so, ebay is something as big as google and google wont be able to compete against ebay and paypal.
I believe they can compete with ebay for sure, because ebay uses google to advertise their website. Basically all google has to do is deny ebay ads and ebay already will loose 45% of their traffic already. Also since ebay is the only most used auction website out there there is no other place to sell for members. I here that a lot of people hate ebay because they charge way to much fees and everything else. So google still has a chance.
Ebay is Google's #1 advertiser. You think a company would be stupid enough to lose it's number 1 customer to take a risk in a new market for their company which is in no way guaranteed to be successful? Not everything Google touches works out. The last time Google decided to interfere with Ebay, they had to do a quick backpedal when Ebay pulled all their ads from Google - http://techdirt.com/articles/20070613/140050.shtml
I don't think Google will make an auction site to compete with eBay or any kind of that, its not their forte
yes ur right , but ebay and paypal is well established and for google it will take much more longer time to reach where ebay is now.
I don't think eBay will have to worry for a while. Anyway, If Google does start something similar, they won't have much trouble getting traffic since they have their search engine.
They have a google shopping search but it onl linls to shopping sites i dont think they will start this anytime soon
If google decided to jump into the auction market I believe they would easily beat Ebay, so many people are moving away from ebay and looking for an alternative and a lot of people trust google, they would win. and also they have the traffic.
Probly is a market they don't want to invest in, Becuase its high risk and they can make enough off other sites. I can see it happening if they acquire a huge eBay style site but...
Why would we have to use google check out? Its not ebay. If they make it they will accept every payment.
Wrong. Ebay is not googles number 1 advertiser. Ebay pays google 1.5 million a month... Which is not as much as they would make as owning an auction website. What would you rather do? Make some one pay you 1.5 million dollars a month. Or make 1 million dollars a day? So if they are going to make more money owning an auction website then they are from ebay advertising money then they would do that.
As already mentioned, Google does not have the greatest of track records when trying this. Froogle is a failure. Google Checkout's market depth is very small (not even international). They can start up their own auction site but cannot refuse to stop showing Ebay ads (Big Antitrust if they do try). They have to contend with international traffic and buyers and fraud. If they did do anything, most likely it would be USA-centric with Google Checkout. So no international market. They would have to get a huge auction-base as well as traffic. Considering their failure with Froogle, that traffic part may be left wanting. Why would anyone auction things when the traffic is not there and international buyers are most likely excluded as well. It is a good thought experiment, but overall Google would not risk wasting time, money and resources on such an endeavour. Of course, buying an existing auction network is an idea though none compare to Ebay currently in terms of size.
I sincerely hope not - auction sites come and go and none compare to eBay, particularly those stupid buy bids ones
