I don't think so. It is still a Linux platform as the windowing system is run on top of a Linux kernel. And by far, Linux users are nothing compare to Windows users.

Microsoft has establish a good position in the OS industry for so many years. So it need something extraordinary to take the top position from them.

    No it won't.

Google said this OS is mainly for netbooks and this OS is just a cheap and light alternative so this is a fraction of competition for Microsoft and Microsoft isn't easy to compete with.

Microsoft has a huge start when it comes to developing GUI based operating systems, so they'll probably take a lot of time to take down, but with Google you never know :p

Google has pretty much surpassed Microsoft in everything, from having the messenger in Gmail enabled to handle streaming video and audio to of course dominating the Free Email Market along with setting up quite possibly the best search engine out there, i don't think it'll be a big hassle for them to mess up Microsoft :)

I love google chrome, but I don't think the chrome OS will be a windows killer. If I get a netbook though, I'd definitely use it over a traditional linux distro though.

Look this Google OS will just be for netbooks. now i never personally worked with netbooks, but im sure they are much lighter (hardware/software) then normal laptops/PC's.

Coming up with a new OS for a relative new market (netbooks) is a smart move from google. Maybe they try to snib of small peaces from google.

Chrome OS maybe for Netbooks etc initially, but its a sign of their plans, I dont think anyone would bet against them doing a full OS for full size PC's and laptops.

They may not have OS market share (yet), but they can place their products in front of hundreds of millions of PC users across the globe, this power will ensure they get a fair takeup of their offering, and when they do a full PC version the same will apply, MS will have a hard time when Google really gets into top gear on this.

Chrome OS is possible the killer of MS windows .
But Google needs large efforts to beat it. Also market share is a problem .

Google is trying to get into the netbook market and rub elbows with hardware vendors more than anything else. I don't expect to see anything revolutionary. I've even heard mumblings from the Linux crowd that it isn't a good thing to dilute the OS market more.

i would also say that The Google's new OS will never be the killer of Windows.
Cos a lot of user had tried the reliability of Windows for the past years.
I think Google will only be the king in SE industry
