The first big championship we could play on was European Cup in England and we were in QF (unlucky lost vs. Germany). Then we were third on WC in France 1998 (Suker was "Golden boot"). Didn't manage to qualify to Euro 2000. On WC's in 2002 and 2006 and EC in 2004 we were third in group :(

IMO, it is a big deal for a country with 4,5 million people even to qualify to all of these championships... And we are ready for next EURO :)

I don't think that Croatia will do its best just to knock England out, they will do their best because every player in general (not only Croatian) would like to beat England on Wembley. It is a matter of good reputation :)

You know what's going to happen don't you - Israel will beat Russia and then we'll lose to Croatia.

We don't deserve to qualify - but that doesn't stop me from hoping for a miracle. If we don't qualify I hope we'll take a long hard look at ourselves and work out what's wrong with English football. We need root and branch reform right down to the way kids' football is organised. We need to drop this "we invented the game and we won the war so we must be good" attitude. We need to stop praising every single mediocre footballer to the skies. We won't of course. We'll simply sack the manager and start the whole process again.

SeagullSid, it is the same situation everywhere - sack the manager and promise to qualify on next big tournament... It would be excellent to have someone like Arsene Wenger in Arsenal (11 years in the club) but it is really much easier to fire one person than half of the team :)
From my perspective, I think that the bigger problem for English people is will Beckham participate in next game than all the problems your team has in general...

The problem for Englishmen is that Croatian will do their best to beat them on the Wembley because of the army of scouts on the stadium watching players for potential transfers...

    I've given up on England.
Hopefully if we go out, the shock will allow us to hang the manager because he is a pile of wank and enforce some English quotas in the Premier League which would also fuckup Woolwich Arsenal as they will need to play English players for once :)

Ultimately, the England won this round 0-1. But, their qualification still hangs in the air.

Soccer is not too big in the US and don't really follow it. The games are good though.

Well I don't think so that they will go to Euro 2008. Russia have two matches and win in both match will closed the door of England. But still hoping for England chance.

Israel is a tricky place to go so it is not a foregone conclusion that Russia will get the win there may yet be a twist but i admit our chances are slim now that our fate is no longer in our hands we only have ourselves to blame.

And if we go into the Croatia game on Wednesday needing a win to qualify, we'll be without our best striker, Michael Owen, Why did McClown play him last night. Surely common sense should prevail and he should have left a few of the best players on the bench so they would be fresh for Wednesday. I mean its a friendly against Austria, why didn't he try a lot of new players, instead he brings back Lampard for Barry.

Today Russia will be hard to beat Israel, I've got this news from betting insider.
So The chance between these two team 49% for England and 51% for Russia

In addition, there is possibility of behind-door conspiracy as Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea, is rumoured to have involved in match-fixing, so as to ensure Russia wins the match at Israel...
