Well, because what's written as a guideline is a rule for editing. And the laws of circumstance aren't written in the ODP guidelines. Hhow can you say that a site isn't accepted because of content, when it may very well be that it's never even been looked at??? This isn't really that hard to understand, is it? Umm, no. According to that list, some critical thinking skills are in order. It's an exercise in logic. My point was that you make too many generalized assumptions, and don't seem to make any logical deductions. Your simple answer implied something like this: "Sites sit around for years and don't get accepted because they lack content, and editors are lazy." That's exactly how I read it. I just pointed out that there is no single contributing factor to sites not getting accepted. Any decent editor would be able to tell you this. There's no disagreement that it CAN be. I'm just trying to tell you to be careful how you declare your assumptions. Sometimes it's not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it... I can't help you with that. What in the hell are you talking about? Who said anything about doing this? That's debatable, also. There is no incentive for most people to edit. Those who truly love it are few and far between. I think that the ODP needs something different, but what I think it needs is something that will never happen.
I said that I "barely" enjoy it - but that's not the same as not liking something. And even if I didn't like it, what do you care? I'm still fulfilling my mandate as an editor. As long as I add the value that the ODP requires of me, what's it to you? (seriously)
I'm sorry that you missed my saying SOME in that first post which led you to assume I was implying more then a few. At least I declared it as an assumption (based upon the actual editing guidelines). Q
It's the coder of dmoz. He is so thick - he can' t add an emailing service. 4mil listing has never been a problem for any database or web application. For Dmoz it took three months (paste and copy to another database - using sticky fingers )
LOL thick , dude aol has left dmoz at mercy of their editors, otherwise you think aol would have just sat on their ass and done nothing about the way editors are handling dmoz ?
Dmoz editors would rather chill out and MINGLE at DP rather than reviewing web sites If you don't feel like reviewing, you may simply let somebody else do the job. I know you are not paid for what your are doing and I know that nobody forced you to be an editor. Some dmoz editors have an embedded urge to be just a pain in webmasters' **** Yours
Some yes but not all, lots and lots of good editors out there and if u look at numbers probably good editor numbers > bad editors numbers.
OUCH! That hurt! Lets see, woke up at 6am, started editing at 7am, took a break at 3pm to chill and mingle at DP.... oooh, sorry 'bout that, my bad.
Yaa double ouch annie does more work than all the editors combined at dmoz alone. so show some respect skill.
It wouldn't hurt if you didn't hold the unrealistic expectation that your site simply must be accepted. DMOZ is not a tool for webmasters. It's quality site directory. As long as you fail to realize that, your ass will continue to hurt.
It's not my ass, solid7. I forget domz and I don't need it. I 've been watching the category where I submitted my web site for more than 7 months . So far, not a single web site was added . The category has an editor and it's not about fishing or some taxidermist occupation. That's the reason why I tend to be a complete sociopath in the presence of any dmoz editor. I know compostannie wouldn't do that , but many failed dictators, policemen and security guards ... peace
Well, to be fair to the editors that you encounter, consider this - after the "crash", none of the categories that I edit list me as an editor. (they sport the "volunteer to be an editor" label) So are you really sure that you are dealing with a lazy editor?
www.dmoz.org/Business/Employment/Job_Search has only one single page, the name of the editor is dgarciamnz to be precise Imagine how many web sites waiting reviews in that category!
Who cares? Why does it matter how many are waiting? There are plenty of sites listed in the category - why does it matter to the DMOZ visitor if no more are added to that category? (it might matter to you if you want your site added). The editor is better off spending their time on other underdeveloped categories. That editor is also responsible for the many sub-categories and sub-sub-caetgories.
Check the last listed - few of them is worth listing. The editor must be a pensioner, or may he WAS as pensioner. it's all history: senile editors, dmoz, Bla, bla, bla.. Somebody else will entertain in you, soon
