Jim, you are not alone. Many people won't stand their results page at first. It takes time.

However many will like the unique interface. Many will start liking their result pages slowly and steadily.

I agree, I visited cuil and absolutely hated the way it displayed my search results. Really I cant think of any reason to go back there. the 3 column way of displaying results makes them hard to read and even harder to click on something.

The only way cuil can get an upper hand is by providing more accurate search results and present it in a better way than Google.

But looking at the current site, I doubt they will be able to do that!

i think cuil has way way way more catching up to do...so nothing can be said about it now...

but I do like the design though...it looks even better than google...simplistic yet attractive...

I don't like cuil for now because they doesn't collect some of our sites.
I also vote that Google might buy cuil if cuil will be good enough.

Personally, I'd say forget it. Their indexing sucks. Just tried to find my website through it without any luck. I am an author of free software and since I have a tendency to pick names for my programs, that up to that time nobody else used (e.g. "gnarwl", "giftedmotion", "scenepainter"), I'd expect to always come pretty much on top of SERP, as I gain backlinks almost automatically.

If someone searches for a made up word like "gnarwl", one would expect, that the most relevant page is not some forum post making ample use of the term by explaining config files.

Cuil gave a very bad first impression, many won't even bother checking it again including myself to be honest.

Cuil is not COOL at all :p

I don't see much for Cuil. It is a nice search engine, however Google has managed to create such a great place for anyone. If you ever need help just 'Google' it. How bad does if you ever need help just 'Cuil' it.

Good attempt, but it won't get members to move over.

In my opinion, Cuil is not likely to defeat Google. They're results don't seem as accurate and they're results page looks and feels like the proverbial derogatory ass. Besides, Google are a lot more than just a search engine now. Think of how many people rely on Gmail for their businesses for an example? Who uses Cuil? Out of the 9,000,000 some hits I got over my 4 web sites last month, I don't recall a single referrer from Cuil. I'd be willing to bet Cuil will disappear within a year.

I think it will take some time to become better than google.
Google may also take necessary steps if it think that cuil will beat them.

I like competition, if there is no competition & competitors the users will not get any extra benefit, So there should be more Cuil's.

    :) this is my opinion
