Will Creating Links from Existing Sites trigger Sandbox?

I have just been reading the Wikipedia explanation of the sandbox:

When I create a new site for a customer, I tend to add links to it from my own site, my Squidoo lens, a blog or two and some social bookmarking accounts I own. Maybe 10-20 links, not thousands, but much the same links for each new site I create.

Is this likely to trigger a sandbox effect? Would the sites be better off if I didn't create links to them? Or are the links of long-term benefit to clients, many of whom do not have the time or the knowledge to create their own links?
