It's not only that but craigslist is also full of scam ads. When I was looking for a car, I saw a honda civic listed there for real cheap. So I contacted the seller. Turns out to be a scam. The car or seller (I don't remmember which) happened to be in Romania and the story line sounded fishy.

We recently launched zMobs at http://www.zmobs.com , a combo of LinkedIn, AngiesList and Craigslist - using social networking to remove clutter, and reduce fraud in classifieds ads in your extended network and community. In addition, leveraging extended network for finding service providers...

Apparently they have some new filter bots that are pretty uncompromising... theres quite a bit of pissed off spammers. Their forums are going nuts.

In Canada, kijiji.ca is very strong rival of craigslist.
In UK, gumtree.com is more popular than criagslist.org.
In the USA, backpage.com is popular although still can't be considered as rival of CL. kijiji.com has opened it's USA chapter and getting popularity very quickly. It will not be surprising, if kijiji becomes rival of CL within next 10-15 months.

F*** craigslist. After finally get around their ridiculous spam filtering to eventually get a few ads to show, an hour later they were all (just 5 or 6) flagged and deleted.

What is total BS is that a competitor can flag you, not just some over zealous geek.

I learned from the blog, I'm subscribed to that craigslist behind the scenes, they're having problems where you think your ad has been placed and you turn around and check the results and nothing ie your ad is not showing.

I hope this is a problem that will get fixed once and for all, its just too valuable a marketing resource to ignore.:)

There's no way Craigslist will die off anytime soon. The name is too big, and like eBay and Amazon, people will continue to go to it first if they have certain things they want to buy or sell.

I don't think Craigslist will want to kill itself. It ranks well and has alot of traffic.

Spammers will force craigslist to implement anti-auto posting software, etc.

    I hope CL survives.

As a user, I HATE seeing those d--- survey and WS domain ads! The sooner the auto posting gets banned, the better!

I wonder that still more than 25% people are happy as a craigslist poster. I thought this figure will be less than 15%.

I was posting 20 ads daily...now they are not flagged

    they just don't show up

I tried images and some show some don't

I did 9 posts tonight and 3 showed up

very frustrating these last 2 weeks

Enam is well versed on this topic and I am sure he is frustrated also

I know they had a big power failure in that area

maybee creigslist has new software to screen

I check my e mails and none are flagged
    just not showing up

very irritating to post these last 2 weeks

10 months to cover what craigs has done over years...?

and how do you expect this to happen?
    Organically? word of mouth/viral ?
kijiji would have to have a VERY significant advantage over craigs, AND the user base....

So...do they? no...not yet..and without some BIG $$$$..doubtful they will-

What happened to the post counts on CraigsList? Wasn't there a number in parentheses next to each category? Seems to have disappeared...

Craigslist is simple and easy on use. Thats why it stands out. First time I visited the site I wondered how such a simple looking site doing that well. Then I realized simplicity is the key.
One day I saw Craig Newmark on TV. Seemed to me a down to earth person. He was saying he doesn't wanna sell craigslist because he enjoys working for it. I got inspired by him.
Craigslist will survive for long time I believe.
