I wonder what is actually going on with craig's list for last one and half month? Everyone is facing trouble posting ads. Craigslist says the ad is active but most of the ads are never viewable on the site. The site (particularly posting process) is going down on regular basis. Number of active ads has reduced by at least 50% over past one month. Will craigslist survive at all? It's a great opportunity for kijiji.com to grab the traffic market of free classifieds.
I think it'll survive. I've been looking at buying a used car, and its definitely helping me find one. i might not end up buying one from a listing on there, but Its great to know thats one of the options I have.
I am just getting frustrated with craigslist. I have started to divert my clients to backpage.com and other free classifieds sites. I have compiled a list of popular cities on craig's list here For those who are looking for alternatives of craigslist, I have compiled a list here
Craigslist is good for dealing with low priced items. Once you post anything $500 and above you get spammed to death by the Nigerians. My brother listed his memory cards for sale and in hours found a local buyer. They met face to face and did the transaction. It was quick and easy.
How do you tell that while people are selling expensive items like cars and apartments on craigslist?
There are also spam problems with people using other people's emails to post "free items"... which leads to a lot of spam emails. I found that CL wasn't so great when it came to looking for local housing nevertheless, I think they will survive. They can and will probably work on these issues.
It is strange that craig's list got ten millions of dollars from real estate industry and at the same time it did not produced newdevelopments and services. The plain design is good but the web is becoming more and more virtual and I think it will start loosing its popularity if its owners don't make some changes. That includes more precise commercial and bidding tools.
I've been wondering what the heck is going on! Half my ads say they are posted but do not actually show. Glad its not just me at least - thought they were being censored or something.
As a designer I think their layout looks hideous, however because of this I think it kind of branded them in a way they must be known for their greys... and blue hyperlinks lol
Add my site to your list of free classifieds, Company Advertising Klassifieds I'm not a big craigslist fan but I think it will survive. If the ads don't show because of spam, I think thats very dirty to get bogus page views daily. That would be the only reason to do that. While you check for your ad, and do it again later and maybe once more he got page views for that.
I still think Craigslist will survive, as long as they fix these problems in the next month or so they won't die out completely.
If you don't live in one of the cities on craigslist, then it is worthless. All I see on craigslist for my area is spam. And you can report it, but it never gets removed. I've advertised there and never received even one inquiry to my ad.
That's frustrating. What did you advertise and when? If you tried recently, did you check whether the ad actually appears on the CL's listing page? Craigslist is now facing some problem and a lot of ads don't appear on the site at all. I think you were a victim too and you didn't receive any query for that reason.
Maybe 5 a day, one or two from an individual account. Just feeling around currently to see if there's a profitable strategy. So in other words - its not the quantity of posts thats affecting things.
Some real estate listings... Probably 2 months ago now. And I checked... They were there on the site. Buried by all the spam ads that didn't even make sense.
Forget surviving, Craiglist will drive yahoo! out of business. Glitches like the one OP mentioned are easy to fix.
